This is how I feel it should be laid out. I think it makes more sense, but again, just my opinion.
http://oxihosting.com/files/4/DH%20layout.jpg
It doesn't address how I think it's cluttered, but it works for as many advertisements as you have on there now.
And those white spaces are from missing advertisements. Do you have adblock installed?

I really like that layout, IEMC. It's more suited for left to right, top to bottom reading, which, btw, is the way most people read. Everything flows that way in your layout idea. The way it is now your eye has to jump around the page to get to the information you want. It looks flashy, but to be honest, it's not comfortable to read.
Other than those 2 things (front page layout and new posts link/info) I find the new look quite catchy. The site loads fast in my case, even on my junk terminal machine. Plus before I never ever went to Gaming Heaven since the forum had the same info in it, yet this way I can easily jump from tech to gaming news on one page. Nice touch.

Not too sure if this happens in other resolutions, but I've noticed that in 1280x1024 or lower (tried down to 800x600) that the news showing up on the right side (Technology or Gaming), that sometimes the very last listing isn't showing completely in the window. Or rather that it gets cut off.
Just TYSK.

Agree totally and its basically the same shape as the design I have proposed yesterday to the team with other modifications. We will see how it goes.

I dont see any white patches on that image, just black placeholder boxes were the ads are meant to be which looks like they are being blocked (it is exactly the same ad code as we have used for 2 years now so that hasnt changed). Am I missing something?

just that i have never seen it look like that before ( i know its a new forum design) but i never had blank patches before and i dont have any ad blocker software installed i have the default explorer pop up blocker turned on but no actual ad blocking software that i am aware of
i know i said white but as you said mine are black ....
i use Tweakvista but the ad blocking isnt enabled also Tuneup utilities and as far as i can see theres nothing in there , i have no norton or 3rd party ad software so im not sure why there are those large black areas
i never noticed any large blank areas on the old site before i always had ads its the only reason i mentioned it seeing as someone else had the same thing in a screenshot and i misunderstood what they were on about
if they are ads i dont know why i cant see them ... im using ie7 not firefox so no built in adblocker
format due soon lets see what happens ....

well if you arent using ad blocking or host blocking then the only other possible explanation is that they arent fully displaying for some reason - as you know they start off white then they load, turn black, then display, a simple confirmation or check from you side is to try loading the front page in another browser (opera or firefox). In this case I will say that it is 100% not a problem with the front page - especially as the ad code is exactly the same as we have always used and ive tested it this morning on 5 seperate machines (I really do, im not just saying that).
Hey, first time ive been able to say its not the fault of the front page ! ill mark this day down in the calendar.

Do you see any adverts on the forums? typically the large one across the top below the navbar, the tower ad to the right side, and the ad at the footer?

Depending on the theme those placeholders are black or white. Obviously I want to do my bit for DH so i'd like to find out why the ads are not showing. I have no ad blockers in any shape or form and just a standard install of ie7 with no tweaks. I've cleared my cache 100% including a run of CC 2.05.55. I've reinstalled shockwave and flash for what it's worth and still just get placeholders.
Out of ideas, help me do my bit for DH.
PS oh and naked dancing girls down the side would work, failing that how about some greased up chubby girls . My display is at 1920x1200 which probably explains the yucky grey scale round the sides, try a trial run of a few other colours lets see what works, I think a solid colour would probably be more pleasing on the eye.

The ads display fine, im guessing the ones having problems have unknowingly got some blockers installed or something else in the browser on a third party level stopping them displaying. looking at the source code its the same as before, so I suggest people start properly clearing their caches and cookies, then trying multiple browsers. It is not going to help the guys in charge here if they are getting reports from long standing members about problems clearly on their own end.
As for the front page. I like it and I don't like it. The flash does NOT suit the theme and looks like it has been hacked into the page. I dont like the unnessary movement and the distorted text and the way it ends mid word from time to time. its messy and not at all the professional look the rest of the page exhibits.
Move the poll to the right. move the other stuff to the left. fix the flash mess and move the ads to positions more at the edges of the pages so it looks more structured.
It could be a lot better and im sure it will be once we give them some time. As for someone complaining about 1920x1200 and the edges having grey or whatever, as the front page doesnt scale, there is never going to be a way around this, however im stunned to see people run a browser window at full 1920x1200 resolution?! I run mine in a much narrower window as I can do other things at the same time, also a lot of sites dont scale well to 1920x1200. Dont see the issue myself, the forum scales fine.
Don't mean to sound like im being argumentative here, but quite a few people seem to be just complaining for the sake of it. serious problems sure, but a bit of grey at the sides of a theme?

Restraining myself here ....
ok valid point having a problem at my end and comlaining about it is silly but until the frontpage changed i hadnt realised i had a problem at my end if i never seen the ads how am i aware that they had gone missing , what has happened here is typically called problem solving
but until i did start asking questions there wasnt no point when it was clearly on my end
after reading the thread and clearing cache , cookies etc i still had a problem
i said i had a problem
the guys look into it
give me some suggestions
i try what they said to see if it does or doesnt work
thats how this place works , with problems like this you cant know its your end so you ask i wasnt really aware on a concious level that i had an adblocker installed
the one truley great thing about this place is the people always have the time to help out even with the small problems and never complain/criticise if after all the work it turns out to be user error
but when someone comes on to complain about someone elses trial and error to solve an issue thats a pain ... would it have been better for us to say nothing ??
