Been a member for years and the home page is kind of scary...
Really I am not a fan at all. I am sorry. I am sure there was a lot of time put into this, but it just looks like a spam site with all the ads and the little info on the home page.
I know ads are important, but it just looks like there are way to many.
I really over looked the reviews and I had to really look hard to notice that the reviews are not ads and is part of DH.
The front page I give a 3.5 out of 10.
To cluttered and even being a long term member I am turned off...

I like where the new front page portal is going, but there's just a few quirks that are kinda "blah."
The Ad spacing feels kind of...off. I don't know how to explain it.
Also, incredibly difficult to read the front page on a TV. Not like that really matters, but looking at 8pt font from 7 feet away is kinda straining :P Increasing text size destroys the formatting of the website...so it's not really an option.
Oh well, other than that - looks really different, and I like it

I'm liking the new skin! (the light one, anyway). Finally a skin that I'll be able to jump from SkyHeaven to. And good timing as well, since SkyHeaven seems to be discontinued

I was thinking the same thing. Until you go into the forum, and the "Welcome, whatsyourface" box shows up you don't know if you have a new PM or not. Not a big deal (don't like answering PMs anyways).
However, I miss the quick "New Posts" button on the main page. Not that I'm lazy about going into the forums first, and hitting the "New Posts" link, but the link on the main page had the added benefit of informing you as to how many new posts there was. If there was only a few then I knew I could go onto something else, like, actually do some work. If there were, say, 250, then I knew I'd have to get comfortable for the read, and thus change the sign on door to, "Closed. Go away."
Edit: come to think of it, you know how you have the fade in menus for the "Tools" and "Network" listings? Is it possible to create the same thing for the "Forum" listing to, so that if a member is logged in it get's expanded to include more options? Say "View new posts since last login" or "xxx new posts since you were last on", or something that could be selected from that listing? Just a thought.
As to the main page, I don't know if it was intended or not, but I can see one very obvious benefit: it's smaller, meaning it's quicker to load. Perfect for the guys on dialup, but maybe as well as easier on the server load too?

Don't know about you, but I can seem my own avatar just fine. Don't forget to go through your User CP under "Edit Options" to make sure that the avatar options are on. As well, be sure to do what Zardon suggested earlier about clearing out your cookies, and reloading the site.
Oh, and the Tech news link is there. Part way down, right hand side. You should see two listings: Technology News, and Gaming News. Clicking on each changes to that listing. It's just.. smaller, and frankly, more organized.

If you only use the 64bit Internet Explorer browser, then yes. However that browser has very little support on many levels.
Internet Explorer 32bit
Firefox
Opera
Safari
All work fine in your OS and are all free. (32bit IE is already installed)

It'd take some getting used to. Here are my first thoughts about the front page:
Most of what I see when it loads are ads. I have to scroll to get to actual content. This really gives a bitter taste, IMO.
I like the tech news position and being able to switch between it and gaming news.
I don't like the "Gaming" tab reloading the page and changing theme. This is inconsistent with the new interface, and is pointless, since everything else is accessible in both Gaming and Technology views, and is exactly the same. I'd like to see it as a normal tab, probably in the form: "Technology Reviews", "Gaming Reviews", "News", "Articles".
Perhaps rename "News" to "Site News". The difference between this tab and the "Technology/Gaming News" on the right isn't immediately obvious. Granted, after using it once it'd be clear, so it's not a major issue.
While the separation of reviews from news makes some sense, especially in the aforementioned context (news being the same for both tech and gaming), I miss having a time order over the entire context of reviews, news and articles. In the previous version I could see what's new since it was in a single listing and at the top (apart, of course, from having separate tech and gaming pages). This was more convenient than the current tab hopping. Here are a few thoughts/solutions:
- DH/GH doesn't have a very high frequency of new content, so frequent visitors shouldn't need more than a single list. Having this as an option will be nice.
- A date on the items would be nice. BTW, just checked and it looks like articles don't have a date, either. I went to the Vista Gaming articles, and found nothing. IMO that's a very important piece of information for these articles.
Another thing which doesn't have to do with the main page, the "driverheaven.net" watermark in the quick reply window was distracting, especially since it moves. Now that I've written a lot, it's not displayed (it's centred over the entire text, I think).
Regarding the page not found problem with the skin selector, I went to IE6, where I don't mind clearing everything, and cleared all cookies and cache. I tried both logged in and out, restarted several times, and still it doesn't work.
Also, in IE6, the rightmost ad (currently an Intel ad) moves to the line below, under the tech poll, and pushes the Reviews, etc., panel right, so it's half obscured.
