I hope a Thank You is OK
Where else should a lowly sorta wannabe computer type person find the gods of drivers and info but here in this bit of heaven in cyber land? Sometimes the obvious place is the right place.
Well anyway some years ago I put together this here computer that I’m still using today. It’s a 3rd generation build for me that started with MS Dos and was upgrade across platforms all the way to XP Home SP2 and I might add except for that dreadful ME experiment…ahhhhhhgggg… with little or no trouble. The current info:
1st Main AZ11E Motherboard with VIA KT133 chipset
AMD K6 “Thunder Bird” 950 processor
Sound Blaster PCI512 Sound Card (with 4.1 Speaker System)
GeForce3 Ti 200 APG Video Card
500+ Meg of Ram
I’m a simple kinda guy and I mostly deal with Burglary and Fire Alarm System, Access Control, CCTV…etc. My computer was just fine for me until I bought that ATI TV Wonder Pro tuner. That was 7 days ago. The 1st attempt at installing it went fairly well and it even worked, a little. Tried making what adjustments that were available in the software that came with it and things went from “Well it works…” to “What happened to my sound?” and quickly onto “Well just how in the FU**(%# HE?@ am I suppose to reinstall anything without a DA%*! WORKING CD OR DVD DRIVE!”
I managed to step back and gather myself, I had after all created Restore Points… except during the several system lockups and crashes while trying to reinstall XP drivers for my “The driver is loaded but has not started” non FUC&@@! WORKING sound card… Turns out some files needed for the restore got sorta “mangled”…lol This after a few days of searching out the fix for the CD and DVD drives.
Then at my lowest point having resigned myself to a cruel and unjust fate… A complete reformat and reinstall of XP I prayed that those gods that I just knew are striding the ethereal plans of the internet should watch over me and guide me through that valley of wrecked systems that I know have gone before me that are the older computer and XP install. Then of all things my “It really is authentic and I did buy it, true Microsoft Windows XP Home Upgrade installation CD” said it could not detect a qualifying product on my computer…DUH?? I set it up as a dual boot 98SE and XP system? Please insert your qualifying product “CD” in the CD drive to continue. Of course all I can find are my Win 95 3.5” discs and you can’t get XP to look at the A drive.
Back to the Internet…Google…word the question just a little different (surely the gods have an answer for me, else why prevent my reinstall of XP) and there it was Driver Heaven. Well KX project CL drivers, Driver Cleaner Pro, and a lone comment about a TV add-in for Winamp later and just like that…EVERYTHING NOW WORKS!!!!
THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! I am truly not worthy. Donations shall be forthcoming and I’m thinking I can use that free space I have for a personal web site for a Temple with a nice but simple alter for you folks, the gods that dwell and perform miracles at Driver Heaven.
