OK folks, I'm looking at a pair of 4870s that I just bought, which are going to be replacing my trusty old 3870 X2.

One is an ATI branded one with the 'dust buster' HSF which exhausts to the outside of the case, and the other is a Sapphire with the 'open' HSF that will be exhausting some hot air into the case.

I'm thinking that for better 'heat management', that I would want to put the Sapphire in the top slot and the ATI in the bottom so that the ATI won't be drawing hot air coming from the Sapphire. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Now another question arises as well. I'm going to be crossfiring them, and would like to do it with the least amount of hassle. However, I have 9 OSs to consider.

Would it be best to:

1. Install ONE, and then update the drivers in each OS, then shutdown and install the 2nd in crossfire?

2. Install both in NON Crossfire mode, install drivers, and then put on the ribbon and enable crossfire?

3. Install both in Crossfire. I think that I've read that trying to do directly to Crossfire can cause issues, so I'm looking for answers.

Finally, I'm also running two monitors. Once in Crossfire, do I run both monitors from the first card, or one monitor from each?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I play movies from sites such as hulu and put it in fullscreen, the video framerate is slow. The driver for my graphics card has not been updated for windows 7, so I tried the mobility modder with the latest vista catalyst drivers and no effect. Anything else I can try?
So i've been once again ripping my hair out over the distruction of a relatively "working" CCC that has removed so many bloody options and left us...

So i've been once again ripping my hair out over the distruction of a relatively "working" CCC that has removed so many bloody options and left us with a terrible UI..

While yes that's driver related..

I think the biggest problem is the issues still plagued by the HDMI connections and even starting to affect their VGA abilities unfortunately.

I setup a HD4870 on a 1080p Samsung LN40B650 (newest revision) and i've never had so many issues before with VGA connections. I did get 1080p working @ 60hz via VGA, but HDMI still a horrible mess.

In the hopes of resolving all the issues, i got a HD 5770, and things have not only gotten worse, but it's basically unuseable on hdmi/vga fronts completely.

I cannot select anything above 1360x768 without distortion or problems. The HDMI output gives me a 1920x1080 desktop, but is interlaced and stuck at 30hz, it also gives me lines and an occasional shot of green instead of white.. which initially i cropped up to being hdmi cable issue, but alas, not only several cables including a 3ft Monster overpriced cable, but a different video card. Why can't ATI get hdmi right?

Why can't i get VGA working at all to? Suddenly it's stuck at 30hz or below as well, AND i can't get a picture at all at anything above 1360x768.

the newer CCC's FORCE options don't list anything beyond the typical "unrecognized monitor" options not does it allow me to force anything at all, select a resolution in the force list, and the apply or ok buttons do nothing.

Unfortuneately, unless i can get this resolved for the customer i've got within the next 30 minutes, the 5770's are going back.

In a crazy attempt to get something at least to work and confirm, a 5870 also produces the same exact results.

Now figureing this is perhaps, well as claimed to be samsung specific, i cannot get a panasonic plasma OR Toshiba LCD to work at all either, the Video card JUST won't work...

Any solutions obviously welcomed..

Latest updates installed, latest drivers, windows vista or win7 x64...

The Radeon HD 5870 "six" or Eyefinity edition has been spotted over at pcpop.com. The card has TWICE the amount of memory (2gb) when compared with the standard model and has not five but SIX Mini-DisplayPort outputs.

The card abandons DVI and HDMI outputs for the plethora of Displayport outputs and the upper section of the backplate has been kept free for a heat exhaust system. As well as the mega memory count AMD have included both 8 pin and 6 pin PCI express power connectors and the standard 1GB version ships with two 6 pin connectors.

This will more than likely be a limited run edition as there will be a very small audience demanding six screen capabilities. Looks mega though doesn't it?

I may have been given incorrect info about installing these drivers. I mentiond that I uninstalled everything ATI and asked if I install the Omega drivers will I need to install anything ATI? I was advised Omega will incluse everything. I am guessing that is incorrect as I am having issues. Even though I select the ATI tray tools to be installed they are not installing therefore I cannot adjust anything as suggested with install isues. Checked my mobo for anything out of date, updated an audio driver but all else seems to be up to date. I am obviously no software/hardware expert but something is amiss. I have attached a dxdiag report.

If anyone has the patience, would you be so kind to mention what I need to do to correctly install these drivers to work? Do I need to uninstall anything and start over? What else needs to be installed, i.e. VGA driver of some sort?

Thanks for any help.
