So I'm looking for something with the best color- a "natural" look. Mainly for photo editing, some video and gaming but those are less important. I believe I want an IPS panel but I do not understand the differences between h-ips and s-ips. I just need info and maybe specific suggestions. Thanks. Budget is not a huge issue, as a large portion of time with this will be work related.

I decided I might re-join my friends with LAN gaming. Rather than hauling my PC to and from theirs every time I want to game I thought I might throw together some components.
I've got a choice of two options really. I can either use my gf's old PC that she used to use as a secondary, which has an AMD X2 6000, 2GB DDR2 800MHZ, 550W (I think) PSU, disk drive or build up another PC using a Core 2 Duo (can't remember the number), buy a Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L, swipe 2GB DDR2 533MHz from work, probably utilise the PSU from my gf's spare PC and use my old case. Either way, I'd have to buy a graphics card, which brings me to the reason for my post.
Is it worth me forking out £33 for a motherboard, considering the PC I have available to me and what sort of graphics card is good value-for-money for around £60?
We're going to be playing CoD 1, United Offensive, 2, possibly 4, Dawn of War 1 (all expansions), 2, Unreal Tournament (all of them), Command & Conquer First Decade, 3, Battlefield 2, Fear, Battlefiled 1942 and possibly a couple of newer games at 1280x1024.

After looking over some online discussions & benchmarks it seems like the Nvidia 9600 GT is a decent VFM card and I can get an XFX 512MB version for just over £60.

My 3870 X2 is getting a bit long in the tooth, and while it was a good match for the 4800+, I'm thinking that with my Ph II 940 it's not enough GPU.
I've been thinking about a 5870, but at the $$ he's asking, this is awfully tempting.

Hello everyone.

I finally saved up some cash to upgrade my PC so i got a Saphire 4890 1GB Vapor-X which was my priority now when thats out of the way im looking into some CPUs and my options are Q8400 and Q9400 but i havent really been tracking the hardware development since it would only make me  all over my keyboard without having the cash to buy stuff.
Im sure ill get some improvement with either of those CPUs as this card is getting seriously bottlenecked by my e4500 atm.
The question being if Q9400 is worth extra 40 euros from Q8400 and what is the difference between them other than 2MB more Cache on 9400 ?
Also i have been looking into some CPU cooling and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on Thermaltake DuOrb for CPU ?

Cheers :)

Could someone give me any hints or suggestions what could be causing my Gateway 18" FPD to go into power saving mode on its own when i am actively using the pc ?

I have the power saving tabs set to never hibernate and have the screen to never go into power saving mode and it has periodically still doing this on occasions while surfing.

Intel p4 2.4Ghz
Nvidia 6200 video card
Antec 480watt P.S.
2 gig pc2700 ram
Windows XP Home edition SP2 IE6.0

I have reseated all boards and the internal housing is dustfree.
The cpu & gpu temps are all running fine.
Video card is only 4 months old with fairly up to date drivers that i used when i installed the new video board over 4 months ago and this phenom just started a few weeks back so i dont figure its a driver issue.

It just did it this morning after a 2 week period when all was fine.
I did a system restore just before this typing back to Friday last week.

All my windows updates are up to date also for my OS.

Regards & Thanks for any replys

I currently have a PS3 and PC hooked up to an LCD TV and I was considering getting a higher resolution.
Quite a few of the decent spec monitors come with HDMI ports and I was wondering if anyone knew if a PS3 would work properly through a monitor's HDMI port. I don't use any other aspect of my TV so I have no problem with a lack of speakers, aerial, scart, etc.

A guy gave me his PC to look at, he said it would shut off after around 30 minutes or so. It has a e2200 dual core pentium in it. After having the PC on for only about 15-20 seconds, the bios says the CPU temp is 70 degrees C. I checked the intel site it says the max temp for that processor is around 73 degrees. I am sure that is a conservative number, but I dont think the CPU should be reaching 70 that fast. I have not seen it go past 71, but I have not left the computer on for very long. The fan/heatsink assembly seems loose and wiggles a little, I dont know if that is the problem or not. I can unscrew the fan/heatsink part, but there is a black thing the fan screws into that I am not sure how to take off (that is the piece that is loose). I will try to post a link to a picture.

First pic is the black piece the fan screws into. Like i said this piece seems loose, but not sure how to remove it or fix the problem if that is the problem.

This pic is just the bottom of the fan, the 4 screws are what screws into the black piece.

Hey, I've been struggling with some inconsistent framerates in games 25-250. I'm pretty confident the problem has to do with my Opteron 185. I was wondering what parts of the rendering process that the CPU is most responsible for so I can lower the settings? My system specs are as follows:

AMD Opteron 185 @ 2.88GHz
Radeon HD 4850 @ 675-1100
2GB Corsair XMS Platinum
500GB Barracuda 7200RPM HDD

The games I'm trying to play are Call of Duty 5 and Tom Clancy's HAWX. Everything seems to run fairly smooth until there's a great deal of smoke, or I look at a large part of the map.
