Amplitube
Hi to everybody, i'm new here......
I've installed kx drivers without any problems. Excellent guide.
Also direct recording works without problems.
I am working with Cubase SX3.
But i wish to play my guitar direct with amplitube (digital amp simulator) --> i've tried every combination of routings thats possible but no luck !!!!!
I also wish to use Cubases effects like reverb, delay, eq the same way i mentioned before.....
Has anyone had same problems like me ?????
I'm desperate, i don't know what else to do.......
Please help me....

Amplitude comes in a stand alone but also as a VST plugin. You might have better luck using the VST plugin from within Cubase. Just add an audio track and load Amplitude as an effect on the insert strip. I use Guitar rig with SX2 that way and it works fine. I was unable to get Guitar Rig stand alone and SX to run at the same time.

You can do that too with the vst. Instead of loading Amplitude on the insert, load in on the audio track channel mixer, then use Cubase software monitor. then you can hear the audio with the effects and record at the same time.
This way acutally has the advantage of recording the audio clean, but you hear all the effects during monitoring and playback. this allows you to go back later and tweak the Amplitude settings if you decide to.
Hope im helping

Its the little speaker icon on the track, right underneath where you can name the audio track.

might be alittle off topic but not really, I just play my guitar directly into KX DSP and I make DSP set up with distrtion and EQ and reverb..etc..You can use the other program as well but I have had great results with just using KX dsp as the processor...might be something to consider..

Yeah, Actually using some of tigers processors...I don't seem to precieve any latency also. When I tried to use other Guitar processor such as Amplitube or others I seemd to get bad latency that may be my system but that my be a sign of trying to run an external app. So I just always use the KX DSP, now especially because of Russ's signal router which waas written specifically for using KX for a guitar multi processor you can make and save great presets. I just wish we had some new effects to work with..especially a new distortion or overdrive effect..

ALOT can be accomplished by using EQ after the distortion (as far as 'tone' is concerned)
But, I have to admit, it doesnt come close to the amp sim on my table top Guitar FX unit. (Johnson J-Station - and yes, I LOVE playing with my Johnson)
I fear the 10K2 just doesnt have enough resource to give me the tone I like (amp/cab sim ability)... but then again - I don't care for the tone I get with amplitube either. (plus I have more amps and cabs to choose from.)
The signal router on the other hand IS AWESOME for adding all the delay/modulation effects AFTER the guitar tone has been shaped - which is how I record/work/mix..
For clarity... If I want a distorted sound - Thats what I record - as opposed to a clean tone - THEN adding distortion to the recorded track - which afaik, isn't a popular recording method/technique anyway for guitars.
The best recording engineers excel in exploiting the equipment they have - and adjusting techniques accordingly to acheive their desired end result. So just because its easier for me to get a tone I like using HW effects, doesn't mean KX isnt capable of producing excelent results (or amplitube for that matter)- its starts getting into preferences and tastes at that point. Im also not a recording engineer either (at least outside my fantasies ).
Distortion in its self is really pretty simple to accomplish in a KX dsp module - its the tone shaping and the range of controls to adjust it - is where Im sure is the part that would bog down the 10KX's resources.

Yes I understand I get great distortions using P5 and a distortion I threw together..sound great.. I just love the flexibility..and no Latency I tried to use applications such as the ones mentioned and I always got a delay. SO i didn't like them. I also have a effects unit to play with and I use the distortion out of that some times and us a parametric to shape it..Digitech RP100, has AMP and distortion models..So sometimes I use that and use KX for other effects reverb delay etc.actually if I dodn'tr have the external module I wouldn't be able to use KX for effects as it works as a preamp for me aswell.

The J-Station is a very good thing, but the 10k2 does have enough resources for good cabinet emulation and distortion is always the simplest thing to achieve .
Here's how to do that in kX:
1.If you have a noisy input use a noise gate.
2.Put a Lowshelf filter that cuts below 300 to 500Hz with 3 to 12dB, according to taste. Real guitar amps also do that.
3.Put distortion - for hard clipping a couple of gains, for soft clipping an APS Fuzz with all filters turned off.
4.Use a UFX P5 to cut everything above 3000 to 8000Hz according to taste to emulate a guitar cabinet. Use many UFX P5s to get the many peaks and nothces that make different cabinet brands and models sound different from one another.
5.Use chorus,flanger,reverb,delay or whatever.
That's it.

Ya, use KX effects for guitar is very cool and zero latency. But I still love Guitar Rig and Amplitude, even though they are cpu intensive. I can use one instance of Guitar Rig with out breaking my CPU (along with other VSTi). So when i need the second guitar track in the song, KX fills the bill.

yes tiger I second that i would like a copy of that waveshaper distortion you had out..you know the module we are talking about...PLS..anyhow, I pretty much follow what you said about using the P5's and such..You can get some real cool, new or old distortion sounds. I love KX for guitar effects, it rules as far as software goes..I also use the effects touer now to quickly swicth between patches I am not sure if you guys have all tried that or not but its a big help with patches.
