arrow Convolver plugin

hi,

Convolution is the mathematical operation which is required to "filter" a signal with an impulse response, obtaining a reverberated signal.

Cubase or Foobar ... etc, by use of CPU, have Convolver-Plugins.

Digital Room Correction by Denis Sbragion http://drc-fir.sourceforge.net/ is a shareware program used to generate FIR correction filters for acoustic compensation of HiFi and audio systems in general.

Jones Rush http://www.mooneyass.com/DRC/DRCGuidev1.0.pdf have a software guide for acoustic compensation of HiFi audio systems, including listening rooms compensation.

A Convolver plugin with the use of the DSP of the card, can be a great kx plugin to produce a realistic loudspeaker reproduction.

Are other forum members, in special expert filters developers, interested to work in this plugin project?

System Specs

It's been said many times. But I'll explain again. Someone, correct me if I'm not totally right.

Convolution in the time domain is possible using the 10kx chip but your are limited to around 100 to 200 coefficients. That's not enough to get good results. You are limited by the ressources.

When done by the cpu, convolution in the frequency domain is usually used because it saves a lot of calculations so you can use bigger filters. Unfortunately, as far as I know, that requires using complex numbers and these can't be used in microcode. The microcode only has instructions to work on floating point numbers and integers. I don't think there is any work around for this problem. That means that it is impossible to use big and nice filters in hardware.

Has anyone tried BionicFX beta? It is a program used to create complex real-time convolution effects with the aid of the gpu.

Thats interesting....

I imagine pressing play in sonar, the screen goes blank...
SO THE GPU is 99% of the time - a super AUDIO DSP - GPU memory is now tank memory for KX driver (plug in architecture) with full control and access to its resources. Hardware based sampler, sample data loaded to GPU memory for ultra fast sample playback of HUGE sample sets and sound fonts. 32 voice harmonizer - midi controlled with 2 mins of delay memory - thats midi synced. 64 additional ASIO channels..... multi virtual effects racks - one running a hacked firmware from an evintide ultra-harmonizer.... with a KX plugin interface for user GUI and control/10kx dsp and ASIO routing.

Ooops - (*looks for paper towel*)

One of them wet dreams - hehe

update:

Had to use mop when I thought of the possibilities of an SLI setup - when in audio mode 1 card is dedicated to audio DSP - the second graphics card can still handle a dual monitor setup - then back to SLI mode for games etc..

Get serious man. Could you explain to us your objections, do you have some (negative) feedback regarding that thing? Have you ever heard it before?
I suppose you are not wandering here just to mop people's juices. If yes, sorry but i am not interested about it.

oops ! missed the reply...

well, considering the SW isnt released - even still almost 1/2 year later - I have doubts anyones used this. Prolly not much more than an idea - thus - my off topic remarks - not sure how anyone could make an 'on topic' remark...

I did however express - just HOW COOL of an idea it is.. anytime theres a way of making use of something in a completey different capacity always intrigues me.
