5point-surround to headphone converter
Hard to say if this plugin can compete with that one from creative, but at least the way the sound is generated is known.
It's a plugin to convert the 5 regular channels of the 5.1 signal to a spatialized stereo signal. 5pointvirtualsurround.rar Sound might not be perfectly balanced, and prolly I'll have to change the used filters. ( the rear boxes are at 150°, frontleft/right ones are at 30°, center is 0° in front, distance of all virtual sound sources is 1.4 meters) Give it a try, listen to some DVD and tell me what you think. (there is still an issue with the center-channel, but atm i can't seem to find the bug) Dunno how good this is for games, my prime idea was to get something like dolbyheadphone running on my sblive. |

Fixed the centerchannel, it's playing now inside the head. Here again the link:
5pointsurround-plugin And a little Wiring example: How to plug it in (To get the links to work it might be needed to copy the link location and open it in a new browser window, or go directly to the minimalist webpage I designed for this plugin.) Last edited by Foolou; Oct 18, 2004 at 04:50 PM. |

The positioning seems to be near perfect, though the front left/right channels sound somewhat muffled when compared to the rear two or when directly routing the inputs to the outputs. I'm extremely glad to hear that there isn't a dead spot positioned directly behind you (like there is when using the Surrounder in 2.1 mode) - that's a welcome relief from an annoying glitch. I'd say that the output is definately quiter than when using the standard Surrounder plugin, but that's nothing that a little gain can't fix.
It also seems to enjoy GPRs a lot (I had to unload my Dynamics Processor 3.1 to make room), but is still plenty light enough to use regularly (unlike the similar HPhSp filter, where I had to unload nearly everything and use ProFX i/o plugins to fit it in). On the whole, I think I like it. If the mufflage can be fixed, then I think I'll be using this in my regular config.

Checked the filter tables and found 2 little bugs (missing '-'), it's corrected now.
Wonder how that could go wrong as it's all cut/pasted values. Anyway new link is : 5pointvirtualsurround.zip (changed from rar to zip, the buggy plugin is removed) |

what is the advantage?
is it better than the hphsp included in the kX plugin pack? and last, what about the GPRs usage?

Dunno the advantage might be that the resources needed are a bit lower, but i guess it's more a decision which plugin you like more.
I don't know anything about how the hphsp-plugin calculates the spatialized stereo, but there is public data recorded with an artificial head (kemar) and this plugin does that spatialization by applying FIR filters derived from that data to the 4 positioned audio-streams (center is a bit delayed but played unfiltered). Generally it's possible to change this plugin easily, the simulated 2D-positions can be changed fast. It could be extended to 7.1 for the audigy or sblive maybe too. Anyway it's kinda documented and free to use and modify. (at least you'd know whom to ask if there are any questions) The other plugin sure has something like a copyright from creative. |

One difference sure is the fact that hphsp-value is a 7.1 plugin, so it features more channels, my plugin uses less resources on the gpr, but lots more itram-registers and gives only 5. surround, no lfe.
Also i think there might be some problems if there is other plugins using the itram. All in all I'd say that the hphsp-value plugin is already working as intended. There is still some stuff to happen to my plugin

To the guid ... I don't have a c++ compiler on my windows system, did the entire thing in a simple text editor.
If anyone would like to do something like a gui .. plz do , although it would be better to wait till there is no big changes to the plugin anymore.

no no no ,i didn't mean the gui!
every plugin in kx should have an guid or there will be some unknown problem! if you use the kx editor ,it will generate a guid automaticly, you can also generate it in the "setting-generate GUID" and past it to your plugin like this: name "5speakervirtualsurround"; guid "19d28540-77e7-4456-9ceb-1aabba64e095"; itramsize 172

Optimized the code a bit .. gpr usage is 70 now, 151 instructions, still needs that huge resource (102/172 size) of the itram.
Although as far as i understand the dane-manual that can be changed, too. (If i get the itram access to work with the direct adresses it would safe tons of gpr and itramregisters) There is however a problem if you use this plugin together with other plugins that use the itram. 5pointvirtualsurround.zip |

Fixed a little bug, raised outputvolume by changing the filters, added LFE-channel, shortened the name to some more apropriate term:
virtual5.1 (if browser complains about impossible hotlinking to angelfire, go to the miniwebby for the plugin) |

I tried to dl that plugin from both links but still had that message "Angelfire does not allow direct linking from offsite", so could u tell me if I'll able to get that from there if I'm registered there or maybe there is another way.

Works sweet, although it needs a hell of resources. But this one made me to design my own DSP, so both thumbs up
