Incoming MIDI sync to DSP effects?

Hi there! This is just an idea really....

Many VST instruments and much outboard gear can be set to listen to MIDI 'sync' messages put out by a sequencer such as Sonar. This means that you don't have to set up things like delay times in the effects.

Is it possible to get the KX DSP effects to listen to this MIDI sync?

Yes, you can send Midi control data to the 'kX Control midi port' for DSP automation.
Most kX DSP plugins are automatable and freely assignable to all kinds of midi data.

Hello LeMury!

Yes that's right, I have a Kenton control freak setup to control lots of KX DSP FX parameters.

Just to help me explain what I am asking, I have an external Lexicon MPX100 reverb unit which is controlled from my Sonar sequencer over MIDI. I have Sonar configured to send 'MIDI sync' to the MPX100, which it then listens to.

This 'sync' sets the tempo of the MPX100 and means that delay effects are automatically in time and are set using 'eight note' or 'sixteenth triplet' patches rather than '150ms', for example. When I change the tempo of a song in Sonar, the MPX100 automatically knows what the tempo is due to this sync signal.

This is not MIDI CC messages, but some other kind of signal that allows tempo synchronisation. My Creamware Luna soundcard also listens to this MIDI sync. I was wondering if the KX drivers can be made to listen to this sync signal too.

Could be very useful for automatic filter twiddling, audio arpeggiators and in-time phasing and flanging.

Thanks,
James

Aha, you mean the MIDI Clock message (0xF8 , data)
which is send by a host at regulair intervals.
Sorry, AFAIK, that is not (yet) implemented in kX's DSP automation.
Apart from that, a certain DSP plugin also has to be written to
listen/sync/translate to that incoming Midi clock.

You could experiment with sending/converting standard CC codes on a seperate
midi automation track, however, to achieve Start/Stop Sync could pose a problem.
