A newbie guide on kX's concept or "How to setup your own DSP".
On user request I wrote a small guide which hopefully makes kX's concept
more understandable for new users. Especialy Musicians! No guide can ever be complete, so I suggest using this thread for related user questions, comments, errors etc. http://members.home.nl/nahutec/kxtutor/kxtutor.html After reading you can download latest ProFx plugins here: http://members.home.nl/nahutec/ProFx/profx3x.htm /Lex. ADDED; A less elaborate DSP guide using only ProFX; (for people who don't like reading to much) http://members.home.nl/nahutec/kxtutor/quickkx.htm Last edited by Lex Nahumury; Mar 3, 2006 at 09:31 AM. This thread will stay in the general discussion forum for the moment as this is where most people look… and i will also sticky this thread so that it doesn't get lost. Thank you for your efforts with this

LeMury,
This guide rocks - it should replace the docs at the KX project, in my opinion. It lets us look under the hood of the EMU chip without scaring us away with unfriendly terminology. I wish I would have had this guide a month ago. Still, there are squirrely things with the SB0060 card that I have that still cause one to pull out one's hair - like I can wire up Aux 2 L/R to ASIO 0/1, but it doesn't actually make the connection. I have to use 8/9 in order to get a stereo pair working for audio input on Aux 2. Doug W, thanks for putting the link up over at PG's forums. -Scott |

Love it. This should come with the drivers when they're installed.
One thing though; the way the html is coded it doesn't work with different font sizes. For example if you read with a larger typeface the images cover up the text. I looked at the source and all the positions are coded absolutely. Strange code overall. "WEB! 2.0 Pro Extended Edition"? Edit: Much better now. ![]()

It has nothing to do with Aux2 though. Any other signal source 'wired' to the ASIO Recordings Outputs will have the same issue; The channels 'mapping' gets shifted and some of the lower channel numbers don't work. The biggest problem however is when this shifting is not constant. Is this your case? /LeMury |

LeMury - from next week i will be able to modify your code (for compatibility), and then add it to the kX Knowledgebase if you would like - zip up the folder and email to dj_stick (at) driverheaven.net - next tuesday/wednesday is when i will be able to spend some time and upload (on holiday atm), contact me if you are interested/have any special requests

Thanks for the great guide. Really helped me get my head around DSP.
However I do have a couple of questions if you can bear it please: 1. Why don't I see what you say I should see? For example, your FX Bus has 30-odd outputs and mine only has 16. These are unhelpfully named (e.g. [8000] FXBus0. How am I supposed to know which are (for example) the Wave 0/1 outputs? FX BusX gives me lots more outputs but they're no more helpfully named. Which majes me wonder what exactly IS the difference between the various almost-identical plugins e.g. FXBus & FXBusX, routing & xrouting etc.? 2. Why don't I hear anything? I've set up a basic DSP configuration just like your one in the guide, I've a sound source playing to KX Wave 0/1 and I've attached each FX Bus output in turn to the stereo mix in but get nothing at all. The problem isn't elsewhere, as when I re-initialize DSP and enable 4.1 speaker mode with surround copy, I get sound straight away. I'm so confused 3. Where do I find the ProFX plugins? They aren't showing up in my menu. Do I need to download them seperately? I'm using KX v3534 with an original SB Live ct4620 I think something's very strange with my setup, it just doesn't seem to be working like other people's - would love to find out why. Cheers again, if I can get over these setup problems I can see I'm going to have something amazing to work with. Last edited by rockbeer; Sep 14, 2004 at 09:05 AM. |

![]() 2. You need to check the signal every step of the way. Connect "peak" to the fxbus at 0/1 and right-click,tweak it. It'll show you a volume meter so you can see if sound is actually coming out of fxbus. (This is a good trick to test anything really.) Also make sure your speakers are connected to the physical port that the signal is routed to. 3. My guess is your sound card doesn't support them, but I dunno.

The numbers of the fxbus outputs correspond to the wave devices (for instance fx bus 4 and 5 are left and right of wave 4/5). |

Great topic! It helped a lot!
Although I don't know why, I can't make the ASIO ProFX to work at all with my Sonar 3.1! I've tried everything but I ended using the Epilog (which only works fine when using ASIO ch 14 & 15 - For some reason, my SB Live plat 5.1 doesn't work right when using ASIO ch 0/1). Well, so far so good...(aside this little ASIO profx thing)...my Line In is working fine and also my MIDI. So, I´m good to go! ;-D Thanks for the great explanation! Alex. ps: by the way...there's no way my new Sonar ASIO 48 Khz low latency config will play my old 44.1 WDM not-so-good-latency recordings, right? :o) |

Yes, certain card models have this 'known asio input mapping issue'. Your card is no doubt one of them..(see kX FAQ at kX site). Some of the lower ASIO inputs don't work, and the mapping gets shifted. The ASIO PROFX should work (although a bit different then Epilog). All and all it's a matter of trial and error to find out how your card maps. Just as it is not true that on Epilog only 14/15 works. You have to check all inputs and stereo combinations.
