Vista Wave 0/1, 2/3, 4/5 and 8/9 Not Working...
Hey all,
Let me apologize in advance if this has been asked before, but I could not for the life of me find an answer in several hours worth of searching. The problem is as follows - I switched over to Vista x86 today and the DSP setup I was using in Windows XP no longer works. I was used to Wave 0/1 being stereo, 4/5 front, 6/7 rear and 8/9 center + lfe. Now in Vista I have 0/1, 2/3, 4/5 and 6/7. The only one I can get sound out of is 6/7 and it appears to only be standard stereo (same as 0/1 was in XP). I've tried everything from 5.1 surround sound audio clips to DVD's, but I can't get anything from 0/1, 2/3, 4/5 or 8/9 while testing with a peak meter. I normally use ProFX SRC setup, but I've tried several options including trying all of the FXBusses. Can I not get my old school 5.1 DSP setup in Vista? Is there an alternative? Or am I just an idiot?! ![]() Thanks in advance! |

There is no longer a Wave 8/9. Recent versions of kX renamed the wave devices to 0/1, 2/3 (previously 4/5), 4/5 (previously 6/7) and 6/7 (previously 8/9).
Aside from the above, I am not sure what additional issues might exist under Vista (IIRC, Wave 0/1 is called Master Mixer and should be set as the default). |

Thanks for your reply, Russ.
I didn't know it was possibly to set a default device in the sound control panel. Unfortunately I'm seeing more odd behaviour while tinkering around in there. If I set Master Mixer (0/1) to default, I get a whole bunch of crackling and garbage. Right now I've set SPDIF/AC3 Output as default and I've gotten a solid "fake surround" using surrounder+, but I can't seem to get true 5.1 content working correctly. When I test 2/3, 4/5 and 6/7 individually through the control panel they come out of the correct speakers though... |

Sorry I really cannot offer much help with Vista since I do not have it...
BTW: Do you have SP1 installed? Eugene mentioned Vista SP1 specifically in the 3545b released thread, so maybe SP1 is necessary... |

Yep, Vista is up to date with SP1. Thanks for giving it a shot!
![]() Regardless, most of what I do requires plain old stereo output, which I turn into 5.1 with Surrounder. That works flawlessly since I switched default devices. True 5.1 or not, I'll take kX over Creative drivers any day. :P |
