Pitch shifting and voice

Any thoughts on a way of smoothing out pitch shifted voices in the DSP? The standard APS pitch shift effect works ok but it would be nice to smooth out the rough edges on it -- maybe something like what the Steinberg Voice Machine offers with its formant control. (Probably dreaming right?) And no, I'm not good enough at coding to write anything myself. :-)
