Need help badly!!
I downloaded drivercleaner from guru3d.com, installed it and ran the clean ups. After I rebooted, I can no longer use my keyboard. Everytime I hit ANY key it freezes the computer. I have 2 accounts on the computer: 1. My account with admin rghts and a password 2. my daughters account - limited - no password. When I try to type password either in normal mode or safe mode it freezes the pc, so I log in with my daughters acount (no password) I can get in but same thing happens if I try to hit any key. When I try and rerun the program to restore my backups that were created before cleanup, all the menus show up as nothing but a "?". Is there anyway to undo the damage? I really dont wanna reinstall windows. (XP Pro)

I dont understand either.... But it happened just after the reboot from cleaning. I can get into my daughters account but she doesnt have any admin rights to run system restore.
Oh and its a PS2 standard keyboard.
Thanks Steve

Yes, but it still freezes the pc when i try and type a password, so i can only log into the limited account. And the only way im able to type is using the on screen keyboard. When I go into device manager it says: "Windows canot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (code 19)"
And the resources say its conflicting with the mouse.
Any suggestions?
Steve

I don't remember, because i havent done it in a while, but i think if you put the windows XP cd in drive and boot up theres an option to system restore...give it a shot couldnt do any harm.

can you install/uninstall/reinstall anything on the limited account? if you can, try installing the old drivers; and do the uninstall of the drivers from the control panel. Have you tried a different keyboard/mouse?

jsx - Ill give that a try and see what options I get.
Pac-Man - Being a limited account I dont have the permissions to change any drivers, but I did right click and select "run as" and tried to do it with an admin account but for some reason it still says it wont let me.

jsx's idea i think will work. it's not exacly a system restore, it's more of a recover type thing. it will install windows, but keep all of your files saved, you will most likely need to get all the MSFT updates again, and reinstall drivers afterwards.
i'm pretty sure that's what happens.

Yeah, thats the repair install, I dont wanna go there..... But I had an idea, since it is conflicting with the mouse, I should be able to unplug the mouse - boot without it - navigate with the keyboard and run the drivercleaner backups and/or system restore... Ill try that and give yall an update. Thanks again

Well, that didnt work. The pc freezes immediately if I hit any key on the kb. Im open to all suggestions so long as I dont have to do a repair install or reformat.

What did you uninstall with Driver Cleaner? Did you first uninstall that through the contron panel and than run Driver Cleaner in safe mode?
Driver Cleaner does not remove anything from mouse or keyboard drivers.
What you can do is go into safe mode and than control panel > system > Hardware > Deice Manager. Look if everything looks ok in there. What you can do is delete your mouse and keyboard there and restart the pc than goto safe mode again and reinstall the drivers you uninstalled with Driver Cleaner so the new ones that you wanted to install.

I actually just ran the driver cleaner and the cab cleaner I believe and let it do its thing. (stupid, I know) and then rebooted. I dont think it actually uninstalled anything from the mouse or keyboard drivers because it says the registry has a problem, it says both the mouse and kb are on the same IRQ or something like that.
And I seem to remember when installing the program, there was an option to check if I wanted to delete end-users common sense and I checked it. Just razzin ya Spike
But seriously, I cannot boot to safemode because I need a password to log into the admin acct or my personal acct and that causes the pc to lock as soon as I hit any key. Ive heard great things about the program but personnaly I believe it was my own stupidity that caused the issues and I dont know how to fix it.

What did you uninstalled than?
The only thing i can think of is that you must run the windows xp cd and select repair. Than it will fix windows.

You have to be more specific what did you use and what filters what steps and such.
