Nope, don't do that.

Re.. your disk space, if you've the system restore enabled, then delete some of old restore points to gain back your disk space.

and pls reread my previous post and all the links that i gave.... those will tell you alot of info.

and yes you can try disabling the prefetcher again.

Gold333,

Okay i just changed the XP Prefetcher settings from "0" to "3",
and do a quick steps and a reboot...

read the links on my previous post re LcnStartLocation/LcnEndLocation...
its value data will never be the same..

Code:
this is the registry i exported it before running boot files defrag...

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction
"Enable"="Y"
"LcnStartLocation"="1715832"
"LcnEndLocation"="1807747"
"OptimizeComplete"="No"
"OptimizeError"="Missing Registry Entries"

this when i modified its values before doing the boot defrag..

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction
"Enable"="Y"
"LcnStartLocation"="0"
"LcnEndLocation"="0"
"OptimizeComplete"="No"
"OptimizeError"="Missing Registry Entries"

and this one is after the defrag is done...

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction
"Enable"="Y"
"LcnStartLocation"="1968413"
"LcnEndLocation"="1987088"
"OptimizeComplete"="Yes"
"OptimizeError"=" "

TIRO,

It worked!!!!!

All I had to do was empty the prefetch folder reboot and run:

Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
defrag c: -boot

Wait for ntosboot and layout.ini to show in prefetch.

And check the registry if it still gave an error where I said it did earlier.

The first time it did, so I had to run

Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
defrag c: -boot

Again (lasts only 1 minute), and I checked the registry again, this time it said OptimiseComplete=Yes, errors=No.

I booted, and it now boots in 4.5 bars.

Thank you man!

All it came down to was running

Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
defrag c: -boot

A few times until the registry didn't give an error anymore.

Thanks!

Gold333,

You're welcome. Glad you've it sorted.
XP is a dynamic, self-tuning operating system, all of my previous mentioned is included.
you don't need the bootvis, just continue your normal use on the PC and it'll give a better response soon.

Hi,
I installed the programm 2 days ago and I'm still trying the different things. But I realised that the staringpage from windows, where it's written "Welcome..." (the blue one, before you see the desktop and Tastbar), stays alot longer then before... What could that be?

Thanks

It could have been due to the tweaks you made. Did you activate the prefetch tweak? That may have done it. If so disable it and reboot to see if it makes a difference.

hmmm I shut it off but I it is still like that, that the "Welcome"-screen stays for about 15 seconds. I hear the starting sound but I have to wait until I can see the taskbar and the desktop...

Download it again, and run a virus scan on your system as well.

When you download the application or run it after installation?

Turbid is on a distinguished road

I just installed and tried this stupid tool, only doing a few of the recomended tweeks from a review of this tool posted on another site and now my desktop settings are stuck at 640X480 and 4 bit color, WTF did this thing do to my computer? I try and change the settings, it says they are changed but then it just reverts back to 640x480 4 bit. I have a radeon 9800, I've never had any problems at all with it till I rebooted after using this tool, could it be the fast boot tweak that messed it up?

I'm friggen pissed, I've allways been leary of tools like this, but your reputation with radeon tweaks led me to believe this was safe.

So, what do you think the problem is?

What were the exact tweaks you did?

I've been using TuneXP since the 1.0 release and have had 0 issues up to this point. I also have a Radeon (9500 Pro) card as well.

That's strange; there might be some sort of registry corruption going on. Sorry about the troubles.

What to tick and what not to tick is specific to how your system will react to the tweaks. What are some of your system specs? Here's a link that might help you out:

Welcome to the forums.

Lesman is on a distinguished road

I had tuneXP installed on my laptop about 2 months ago and it worked great, untill my harddrive crashed (totally unrelated). Now when I try to install it it pops up the command prompt window and closes. I caught the error message "program too big to fit in memory." Can anyone tell me what is going on. My system is configured exactly as it was before, but with a larger faster harddrive. I would understand that it does not work on my oldish laptop but it did before. My system is a IBM thinkpad 600x with a 500mhz pentium 3, 320mb ram, a NeoMagic graphics card (talk about power), and a 40gb hdd at 5400rpm and 16mb cache ( 16mb ) running xp pro. Anyone know whats going on, thanks in advance.

Sorry it this is an ULTRA stupid question, but how do you apply the Tweaks once you have selected them from the menus?

Do you simply close the program? I have no "Apply" button in my version, just the DH logo on a blue background and that is it.

rolleyes

I also have found TuneXP to be a terrific little program. A question just came up on my system today, however.

When I increase the I/O Page Lock Limit to 512M (I have 2G RAM on my system) and run PCPitstop! (which usually gives very useful and accurate info), I get a message saying my Memory is extremely slow. When I reduce the setting to 128M and rerun PCPitstop, the error msg does not appear.

Can anyone assist in interpreting this?

Thank you!
