Driverheaven - Driver Cleaner 2.0
Driverheaven - Driver Cleaner 2.0
Here is new release of Driver Cleaner. Now the name is Driver Cleaner 2. There are a lot of changes in this version. I worked 1 month on it and I am satisfied with the outcome.
Below you find a list of the things that are changed since 1.9:
Improved:
- ATI cleaning file
- nVidia cleaning file
- nForce cleaning file beta
Added:
- Turtle Beach cleaning file beta
- ATI Uninstall Utility cleaning file
- Driver Cleaner Advanced version
- Deleted File and Directory Backup and Restore function
- Deleted Registry Backup and Restore function
- Log File option
- Options Menu
- Cleaning Wizard
- Cab Cleaner Integrated into Driver Cleaner (access through tools menu)
Removed:
- VIA Chipset cleaning file (still not working good)
IMPORTANT: uninstall the older version first before you install this version.
It is for nVidia, ATI, Creative and Turtle Beach. It will remove anything that is left by the drivers after uninstall.
Special thanx to 1 beta tester, Craig aka MrThc he really supplied me with good testing data. From the rest I haven't heard anything.
You can download the new version here.
If you use Driver Cleaner either for personal or business use and wish to support development so i can continue to improve this product, please donate some money. Every little bit helps in my long hours of developing this tool to further aid the community. See the Driver Cleaner website for a link or check the readme or help file for more details.

I tested it today with 3.6's and 3.7's and it works just great.
Thanks, Spike.

Spike:
I used the last version (I guess its v1.9) to install the Cat. 3.7's. They seemed to install OK but who knows. Would I be better off going back and doing it over again with Driver Cleaner 2.0? BTW, keep up the good work.
Thanks

It is not needed to do it again. DC1.9 is also a good version. In DC2 the new options like backup and restore are good for people that like the idea that they can restore the things DC deletes. The adjustments on the cleaning files are just small things. But for next time i suggest you use DC2 it has some new cleaning files also. Maybe download it and just take a look arond in it.

Hmm, I installed 1.9 just yesterday to see if it would make any difference to the Cat 3.7 (all-in-one package) install, since I was having some game-related problems (reported to ATI feedback) with the set. I used both Cab Cleaner and Driver Cleaner. This was the very first time I have used Driver Cleaner and although it didn't make any difference to the problems I had with the 3.7's, I CAN say that I now have the cleanest install of the 3.5'hotfix' drivers short of reformatting. I was surprised at the amount of leftover files it found to remove. My previous method had always been to just remove the control panel and install the new driver set, but since I'm going to try out the Omega set based on the 3.7's when it gets released, this program may come in handy if Omega's doesn't work out for me.
I will continue to use this program in the future, it seems very well-made, very straight forward and easy to use. Keep up the good work.

I get this half way through using Driver cleaner 2 (Cab cleaner) every single time.
Don't know why.
(in safe mode)

So, Cab cleaner only needs to be run once correct, whereas drivercleaner should be run before every new driver install right? Or should I run Cab cleaner before every new install too?

Cab Cleaner should indeed be run once. Driver Cleaner needs to be run everytime you want to install a new driver. Run Driver Cleaner after you uninstalled the drivers. Follow the steps in the readme file.

Have heard nothing but good about this tool so am downloading now to try it on the next 3.8 install. Have a question about what it does to Turtle Beach Sana Cruz files. I am using the new TB beta 4193 drivers. These are enhanced for improved sound etc. Do I need to reinstall these drivers after the clean or does 2.0 DC just remove the ATI driver attachments??

It is a cleaning tool with a lot of cleaning options. So you can select Turtle beach or ati or nvidia and a lot more. Just look around in it.

Alright, I got a small problem. I'm on Windows 98 SE, and getting illegal operation/inf error while trying to install new drivers. So I used DriverCleaner for the first time, and can't find a way to install new drivers (typing this at 640x460 256 colors )
I searched the readme file, and came up with this:
--------------------------------------------
Important on Windows 98
--------------------------------------------
ATI:
After the uninstall of the drivers and control panel check if windows set the display adapter to Standaard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA).
If windows set it to Standaard Display Adapter (VGA) than it is highly possible that you wil get an infsetup error when you install the new ATI display driver.
If you get this error set the display adapter to Standaard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) and than install the drivers.
But I quite don't seem to get what I'm supposed to do now. Could you please enlighten me a little? I'm sort of new to this stuff...

alfredodeu I will fix that in my next version. I can't use that what you said, but i have an idea.
Vortex2 goto control panel and than system. There you will see display adapters. In there your videocard so be with the name Standaard Display Adapter (VGA) click on that and click update driver than select from the list Standaard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA). Than reboot and than you should be able to install ne drivers.
Did you also tried to install new drivers in safe mode or in the normal windows?

Hi Spike I used your 2.0 DC as in the readme (safemode) but I still have the choice between the new 3.7cat.s and Omega's 24.74?
So i checked the inf folder and OEM8.inf still hold the inf for omega's (Base INF Last Updated on 07/20/2003 by Omegadrive)
Is this normal ? & can I delete oem8.inf safely ?

I`ve noticed that if i use the driver cleaner to clean creative audio, it will delete all creative files including the c:\program files\creative directory.
Somehow this is bad cause the new windvd5 contains creative dvd audio plugin which is located at C:\Program Files\Creative\CTDPlugin\
Just to mention it. Other than that problem, it works great. Thanks.

After running Driver Cleaner 2.0, and cleaning all nVidia related options, I am no longer able to install any new drivers! This is not a flame! I just want some help PLEASE!
I have an MSI GeForce FX5600. I have, as of date, tried installing these drivers:
nVidia 45.23
MSI version 44.03
Running them from the included setup.exe's, and upon restarting, the drivers are not loaded. Infact, there is no trace of them even being installed.
Installing them from the Device Manager (under "?" video adapter), and selecting the inf's results in a "Setup could not find the ...... in the selected INF".
Does anyone have any idea whats wrong?
[edit] the method I used to remove the options is as follows:
Normal Mode under Windows XP (SP1), Add/Remove nVidia drivers, before clicking [OK] to reboot, I ran driver cleaner, and cleaned out all nVidia related options. Then I clicked OK to reboot. Upon reboot, is when I encountered this problem.
BTW, does coolbits work at all with 45.23 DET's?

I have no idea how to fix it. The beta tester by me had no problems, but he followed the steps in the readme. Did you enabled the backup options? Also after removing the drivers you must always reboot and than run Driver Cleaner. That is all explained in the readme or in the help file.

Why didn't you do it in safe mode? I thought yopu were supposed to run DC in safe mose to get rid of the protected files..
