Mobility Mod has ruined my X1600/Vista setup.
FIXED: SEE BELOW
I have an Evesham laptop with an X1600 graphics card, which I just loaded Vista onto. Evesham went under a year or so ago, so there is no hope of new drivers. However, when I booted up, Windows update installed some form of very basic driver - there was no interface etc. but my screen worked fine, in full resolution. However, I decided I wanted my interface and graphics drivers - I used to use Omegadrivers, as well as ATI's official XP driver that was released later - but neither seem to have done anything for Vista. I just followed your guide, using the mobility mod on the latest 9.8 desktop drivers - it has removed my drivers that were working, and has put nothing useful to replace them. My Laptop is stuck in low resolution - and when I click on Catalyst Control Center, either it claims there is no valid driver, or does nothing. I have restarted, run the setup a second time - and restarted again. Nothing. I came here with a laptop that worked fine in full resolution, hoping for a Catalyst interface - I now have a crippled laptop with no resolution. And when I try to join the forum - my only way of getting help - my hotmail account is denied, and I have to rely on a university account that is due to expire in a couple of weeks time (I graduated). I'm really very disappointed with this. Is anyone going to help me: - Hopefully get fully working with Catalyst - At the very least, get back to where I was - with a full widescreen resolution? Getting back should be simple enough. Uninstall the current driver package and install the latest from the laptop manufacturer, or that Windows Update bare mode driver.
The mod might work better with some older driver package for your card, though I have no precise recommendation. Have a look at existing threads for some possible ideas on that. |

Fixed!
If you go onto the ATI Website and search for Vista 32 bit X1600, they point you to their legacy driver: Catalyst 9.3 (legacy) Modder this driver and it works perfectly now - laptop looks better than ever. Thanks Very Much! |
