exclamation Mobility Modder woes--plz help!!! Catalyst 9.8

I just spent the past 3+ hours trying to mod and install Catalyst 9.8 on my T400. My T400 has the switchable graphics (4500MD+HD3470). I am running Windows Vista 64-bit. The steps I followed went like this:

-Uninstall previous switchable graphics drivers/software >> Reboot
-Remove leftover folders and drivers with RegCleaner 4.3 by Juoni >> Reboot
-Turn off UAC via Control Panel. >> Reboot
-Download Catalyst 9.8 from ATI website.
-Open installer and extract contents to default folder (C:/ATI...)
-Open Mod tool, Browse...C:/ATI/Support/[driver name], Modify
-Run Setup in C:/ATI/Support/[Driver name]/Driver/Setup.exe
-Allow to install despite certificate signing >> Reboot
-Log in but two warnings appear:
1. At least one display adapter has been disabled because it is not supported by the drivers.
2. Something about VGA Standard Adapter.

I check CCC to look at driver info and it's missing.

Under Graphics Software in CCC:
Driver Packaging Version: Not Available
Provider: ATI Tech. Inc
2D Driver Version: 8.01.01.934
2D Driver File Path: Not Available
Direct3D Version: 8.14.10.0685
OpenGL Version: 6.14.10.8870
Catalyst Control Center Version: 2009.0714.2132.36830

Under Graphics Hardware:
[shows nothing]

Then I tried reinstalling the old switchable graphics drivers (I actually intended to install the standalone Intel display drivers) and tried installing the modded 9.8 drivers over it. I got the same error about the display adapter being disabled because it wasn't supported. I rebooted and found myself running the integrated Intel graphics only. I had the option to switch to "High Performance" through CCC but it doesn't do anything. So now I'm stuck with the Power Saving mode.

EDIT: After rebooting I get this message: "No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware."

I've read that people have had luck installing these newer Catalyst drivers (like 9.4 onward?) and still keep the switchable graphics via CCC instead of Lenovo's Power Manager. That's my intention as well, but so far (3+ hours..omg) no luck. So please, if someone can help me, I would be forever grateful.

Re: Mobility Modder woes--plz help!!! Catalyst 9.8

I have a T500. I didnt care about the intel graphics but I did this to get the ATI card working.

Uninstall any lenovo drivers and reboot. Go into the bios and under setup->display select discrete graphics and turn off the auto select.

Continue booting and wait for windows to install whatever default driver it wants to for the video card.

Now install the ati catalyst drivers that you modded with mobility modder. I was able to get 9.8 on my T500 doing this. Of course if you want the switchable graphics ignore all of this. But as I said I only cared about getting the ati side working, which it did for me.

I read that ppl got switchable graphics to work with CCC though (verified up to 9.7?) But I'm curious if I'm doing the modding incorrectly. I know it sounds really simple but 6 hours later I'm still out of luck. I probably have leftover bits of ATI drivers everywhere now

Did you open the setup.exe in C:\ATI\Support\[driver name]\Drivers? i know there is at least one other folder that has a setup.exe.

UPDATE: I came across this older thread. So far I have CCC 9.8 working by following the discrete-boot-up directions. Before, I left it in switchable graphics mode. I am going to try installing the switchable drivers in integrated now.. We'll see how that goes.

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...or3DGames.aspx

There is also a hotfix available for 9.8 as well. I downloaded this, applied the mod tool to it and was able to install for the ati card only with no problems.

I would be interested to know if you get the intel graphics working as I had no luck whatsoever.

Re: Mobility Modder woes--plz help!!! Catalyst 9.8

I managed to install the modded 9.8 under discrete only. Disappointed that I did not see a notable fps increase in TF2 and the lack of support of Overdrive, I decided to revert back to the Lenovo switchable graphics driver. I think that version uses Catalyst 9.4 but I could be mistaken--I originally thought it was based on 9.3 but remember seeing it in CCC as 9.4. Anyway, I think I'll vest my luck in the ViDock 4 when that comes out in the future. No point pushing my weak 3470 to perform miracles.
