What is a modder tools ?

Hi, I'm new here. Exactly what is a modder tool and what does it do ?

I know it's for updating graphic drivers but why can't we just install straight from the installer we downloaded from nvdia.com ? Why does modder tool come into place ?

Anybody mind to clarify my doubt ? Thank you.

Also, I tried using it. My version before updating 175.xx, and I downloaded the latest version 186.xx. After following the instructions, I installed everything successfully, rebooted and I checked my driver info via dxdiag and device manager, both showing it's still version 175. Why is that ?

so you are asking about mobility modder?

basically it rewrites an .inf file in the driver for mobility radeon (ATI Mobility Modder) and Geforce-Go (Nvidia Mobility Modder) this is generally for laptops...

the reason why mobility modder is needed is because laptop manufacturers dont like using official drivers because its difficult to write up support for them. so they use their own approved drivers...

im really sorry this thread wasn't replied to, the number of people that know all the in's and out's of this software is somewhat limited and i had assumed one of the modder gurus would come in and help you out by now..... i guess it was missed so i hope you can make due with my non-expert answer

Hi kris23, sorry for the repetitive posting but I'm desperately in need of help.

I just got my ipod touch 2 days ago. Everything looks fine until yesterday, my laptop somewhat just gone crashing. There's this "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, but has succesfully recovered." error popping out as soon as I plugged in my ipod touch (after 10-20 minutes ?) and the whole screen appears as sporadic strange graphics (like when your tv is not working well anymore). At one point, I'm forced to reinstall my display driver.

My laptop would be Hp Pavillion dv2523tx(core2duoT1700 1.8ghz, 2gig ram, geforce 8400M GS, vista sp2).

So, I'm thinking of updating to the latest driver, but windows update only allows 171 version, when i check with nvidia website, the latest would be 183. So I'm wondering could I just install straight from the installer from nvidia or do I need to use this mobility modder tools to do it ?

I tried using modder tools and my version doesnt change, but when I install straight from the installer, my version changes. Any idea why so ?

your issue seems very strange to me......

i think it could be a registry issue...... never heard of this happening ever

have you tried to reformat?

Nevermind my problem. I just wanna know is there any diff when installing str8 from nvidia installer and with the modder tools ? Yw

sorry seems i missed this.... generally you cannot install drivers on a laptop straight from the nvidia installer in most cases, it gives you an error. with mobility modder, the .inf is re-written to allow the install....

in some cases, laptops do not have this issue and will allow the driver to install. if thats the case then you have no need for monility modder
