I just got my new Lenovo W500 ThinkPad with an ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 GPU in it. Since the switchable graphics driver provided by Lenovo was bogus and didn't work straight for shit, I tried giving the modded drivers a shot! Even though the card is not listed as one of the supported cards on DH's list, I tried to install these anyway since the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650 is supported and the FireGL V5700 is pretty much the same card as the HD3650 optimised for CAD applications, also has more VRAM. Took a chance with this in mind and it worked! I had to switch to the Discrete graphics card option in BIOS and switch UAC off in Vista for the drivers to install properly. After the reboot I also reinstalled the switchable graphics driver that is provided by Lenovo so I could avail of the the switchable graphics function that is built into ThinkPads. Now everything works great, and it took all of 20 mins. to get my system to top notch graphics display capability!

Re: Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
No problem!Make sure the drivers finish installing in Catalyst setup and then reboot from there because Windows will ask you to restart too sometimes before the drivers finish installing, DO NOT RESTART YET
(wait for catalyst wizard to finish the install and ignore the warning that shows up in the process saying windows does not recognize the driver as this is a side effect of the modification!), click restart later if this happens as Windows tries to install the drivers too (you should see stuff happening in your system tray where it says the ATI FireGL V5700 drivers are being installed) ignore this! After you've set up all your drivers properly (including the switchable graphics driver provided by Lenovo) make sure you go back into BIOS and restore your default settings (F9) and the save and exit (F10). Good Luck!

Hey cosmolink, what windows and BIOS version do you have? Also, have you tried running 3dmarks06? With the default drivers, i'm getting around 3900. Let me know how well you do. Thanks.

Re: Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
Hey g3xtrem, I am running Windows Vista x64 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001 and my BIOS Version/Date is 2.07, 2/13/2009. No I haven't tried 3dmarks06 on it, but I'll see what I get when I do and let you know!

Re: Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
Great, I have Windows Vista x64 also, I tried a few times before to no avail.
Also, what ATI catalyst version did you use and what was the mobility modder version? Thanks for the info so far. I look forward to your reply. |

Re: Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
The mobility modder version was V1.1.1.0 Final Edition and my catalyst version is 8.12 the one I downloaded here http://www.driverheavendownloads.net/ati.htm
Give that a try. When I initially started messing around with this I too had problems. You just have to jerry-rig the thing. After you unload the packets make sure you turn UAC off before you do anything. I had to go into BIOS and switch to the discrete graphics option from display before I booted up. Follow the steps provided and DO NOT REBOOT till the drivers are completely installed. Windows will ask you to reboot earlier but just click restart later. Make sure you reboot when the Catalyst wizard asks you to when the drivers have finished installing. Then you can go ahead and reinstall the switchable graphics drivers from Lenovo. Make sure you go back into BIOS after all this and turn on your default settings in display (F9) and save (F10). Good Luck! |

Re: Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
I just modded Catalyst 9.4 using the non-beta version on my W500 and it installed with minimum problems (I did have to install it twice) then boot into BIOS and switch graphics to Integrated first, then after the drivers finished installing reboot then reboot again in Discrete graphics mode, reboot have the drivers finish installing there reboot and then reboot again with default settings applied back in BIOS. 9.4 now shows up as the catalyst version, however still can't switch GPU by right clicking on desktop. Some people in Lenovo's forum got it to work. I however couldn't, it really doesn't matter since I don't use the integrated graphics anyways!

Awesome that you got 9.4 working. Did you get around to testing it out on 3dmarks06? I'm curious to see the performance difference as I'm still having trouble getting the drivers working.

Re: Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
So I was able to get the 9.4 working as well. Thanks Cosmo. I ran 3dmark06 and got 3970. Not a huge improvement over default drivers. However, I am having trouble over clocking the card. I've tried riva tuner, amd gpu clock tool, atitool, powerstrip. None of them work. Has anyone gotten overclocking working on the firegl v5700 card? Thanks

Re: Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
That's awesome! I am glad it worked! I haven't had the time to run the benchmark yet, since I am now caught in solving the issue of getting 9.5 to work which I modded with the new modder! This one is tough and I wish I had stayed with the 9.4 since everything was working so well. I think I really pushed the envelope a little too far here, and now my Catalyst fails to initialize on startup
? If anyone is having problems or success installing Catalyst 9.5 on FireGL V5700 GPU in a W500, please let us know!

9.5 works for me. I just switched to discrete graphics in bios then installed the modded drivers but I did not switch the bios back to default

Re: Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
Yep! worked for me as well. However, the driver version failed to update in CCC, it still reads as Lenovo's newest driver v. 8.563.2.1. It's awright since everything I run on this seems to work great!

Re : Mobility Modder works for ATI FireGL V5700 !
Hi every one,
I have ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 but on an HP Elitebook 8530w... I can't find the option to swith on a Discrete Video Drivers (i don't know what is it exactly and didn't find it on the bios)... So i just tried to modd the 9.4 Catalyst (recognized as an ATI HD 3600), tried to install it doesn't work correctly. SO i get back to the original drivers now. I'm on XP pro SP2. Can you help me to use the modd and get optimized drivers? Thank you in advance. |
