modding catalyst 8.12

Hi,
I tried modding the latest catalyst, hoping installing it could resolve my second screen crash issue.
I can mod the setup exe, but once run, the drivers and ccc won't install. Basically setup didn't do anything on the HD and at the end of the setup process, it said that "warnings occured during install" and that I should view the log file, and when I click on the "View log" button, it gives a bad url to Firefox.
Using ATiFileVersion I can definitely see nothing has been installed.
I'm using Vista 32bit SP1 on a FujitsuSiemens notebook with Radeon HD 2400.

Ideas, anyone?

Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Hm... I am so sloppy, I forgot that you need to extract the drivers and mod that directory... However it was weird since MM didn't complain that the user is an idiot hehe.

Thanks anyway

Re: modding catalyst 8.12

Actually I'm having a bit of an issue with 8.12 though of a different variety. I modded the driver successfully and they installed without a hitch, however now I'm getting an error when I try to run certain games saying that DirectX is not installed. I'm using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3. I tried re-installing DirectX 9 but that didn't do anything. Anyone have any ideas?

Wait are you sure this worked? because I must be doing something wrong. I don't exactly follow what you're saying of why it worked but I am getting the same problems as your first post. With no avail.

I appreciate the response... Not a total noob but getting there

Re: modding catalyst 8.12

Well... I pointed out "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\8-12_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_72275\Driver" to MM and it seems to have worked, since the installer then recognized the GPU and installed the driver, which obviously worked since after rebooting the Aero and the resolution were back to optimal.
Before I started I cleaned everything with Driver Cleaner.NET and TuneUp registry clean, both in safe mode.
So I guess you also solved it by now?

And I agree, maybe the instructions could be more specific and a check implemented to see if the user selected the proper directory, since you can choose any directory on the HD and still MM says "Driver Modification Finished"
