Hi All ,

First post so bear with me.

I recently intalled xp pro on an Amilo Pa 3553 With ati 3470 hybid

Tried the step by step modding
tried from the device manager

the problem being that there are 2 VGA controllers and it installs the ATI 3200 one properly but not the 3470 (black screen on reeboot)

I have never used this notebook. Do you have to select the graphics you wish to use then reboot? I fail to see how both would be enabled at the same time.

Can you provide more info as well as exactly what you did step by step.

as far as i know in vista (before it died) they worked in crossfire mode , i have tried enabling/ disabling all combos in safe mode
eg: disabling each one to see if the other worked


step by step

Downloaded official mobility drivers
modded and installed with setup/exe
black screen on reboot

uninstalled everything in safe mode
installed modded drivers with device manager
black screen immediately after what looked like some artifacts and an attempted res change and a system hang

I believe the 3200 is integrated if that helps

I have only in the Setupinformation file to the original FCS driver adapted. This without the Mobility Modder.

It is certainly easy for you, this in your tool to integrate.

There are thus only 3 rename files. But that's only the HD3200 and HD3470 supports.

I can give you like the original Setupinformation file from FCS at mail.

recently i got OEM of Clevo M761JU

as usuall, drivers are quite old: 8.493.0.0 B_64119 CL_64376.inf (don't know what the Catalist version is)

OS is Vista, for e-SATA and Hybrid CrossFire (last drivers told to add this to XP, maybe it works. But running XP on AHCI is not fun, drivers are too early yet, and external e-SATA drive is what i'd like). 32 bit.

I downloaded and unpacked drivers of C 8.10 and run installer. Installer set drivers for Radeon 3200 but not for 3470. More so, for a while in Device Management i could see new driver version of 3200 and old of 3470! manual installation on 3470 failed as well.

Oooo... sighed me. Someone told of sometimes successful installation with unmoded drivers... Alas, not my case.

So i modded C8.10 DD and run the setup again. Installer only changed drivers for integrated 3200 like before. Manual installation of 3470 failed again, due to some error like some section or some section somewhere was not founs. At reboot Vista DWM crashed and reverted to SVGA fallback. I could not managed no way to install modified drivers, i even copypasted [mfg] PNP ID's form stock drivers - nothing helped.

Then i deleted radeon drivers from Device Management, downloaded C8.8 and C8.9 drivers, thinking that perhaps it is some changes in latest catalyss made Mod corrupting them and earlier drivers could be made ok.

Then, suddenly, manual installation of drivers from DevMgmt worked like a charm for 8.8, 8.9 and at last 8.10.

Now i'd tried to run install of modified (or should i said bi-modifid? by your modder and by copypasting stock pnp id's) installer again. Strange thing happened: install log claimed that only 3200 was installed and lists RS780 in the "also found hardare" list. Yet DevMgmt shows that title of 3470 changed from Modder's "MOBILE RADEON 3450" to stock AMD/Clevo's "Mobile Radeon 3400 series". Confusing.

So it seems that Hybrid Crossfire is very confusing and fragile for automated tools.

Maybe i 1st run Modder after disabling UAC before reboot i don't remmeber for sure. But facts i re-runned it after reboot and was surprised how long it took to rebuilt MSI's. I don't know if it was coinsidence ot UAC with some stange spell prevented form repacking of MSI's. However when i (with UAC 100% off) modded Catalyst 8.8 and 8.9 there was no such a loooong delay on MSI stage. Maybe that delay was when i run Modder over whole \ATI\SUPPORT folder, so it also rebuilt MSI's of Avivo and CCC ? I don't recall, sorry.

I'd said to do and overdo and again do any caution measures, even if some of them would seem waste of time|effort. You would hardly guess which of them due to some quirks inside Vista or Catalyst Installer would appear fatal. It was magically failing to me, no it magically seems to work! i cannot determine exact reason and... read this paragraph from beginning :-)


So, i'd suggest for those who have troubles with HCF notebooks on Vista to take deep brieth and... (if something seems like waste of time and effort - let it be so, but let it be. For my curiousity and wish to cut the angles i paid with more time and frustration).

1) disable UAC and reboot.
2) run Catalyst 8.10 installation and cancel it after unpacking
3) run Modder over unpacked 8.10.
4) Run DevMgmt.msc, open both videocards and delete AMD drivers of it. Reboot.
5) vista will boot with default VGA driver with little ugly screen resolution. Then it will ask for drivers - don't allow it to search it over internet or discs, let it only use built-in Microsoft drivers. Screen would be ugly. Let it be. Reboot.
6) Now Vista, i hope, forgot everything of Radeon drivers and only knows about SVGA stub drivers. Launch DevMgmt.msc and open both videocars and do Update Drivers -> Manually Select -> Use Disk -> Browse -> \ATI\SUPPORT\<name of dd file unpacked>\Packages\Driver\... somewhere down below You would ind CLxxxx.inf file.
After You wll install those unsigned (Vista will argue against, force it to obey :-) ) drivers for one videocard, Vista would ask to reboot. NEVER. Do install of other videocard driver the same way! don't let it reboot with different drivers for videocards, it might loose reason! And again deny reboot. Loos on you videocards in Device Manager - they should both be named Radeons, and if to open them should show identical driver versions. Check it. Then only cross ur fingers and reboot.
7) re-enable UAC, DEP - and reboot again. Install CCC or Ati Tray Tools or ????? (since those replacements are coded for destops i doubt they are any good for PowerPlay hence i stick with CCC)
8) Profit! at least i hope You would.


Now i'm gonna reboot and if DWM still will work with 8.10 and UAC. Then i'd try BioShock. Will it work ok (on nb's 1280x800), i would take HDMI-DVI tail from my desktop mainboard and see if it would work nice on 1600x1200, where before i saw some lags in max settings on 1950 Pro 256 (XP, 2GB, Athlon x2 4200+ non-overclocked) and worked nice on 3850 512 i had chance to try. Wonder how would 3200+3400 HCF :-)
As well it would be interesting if it will show DVI scaling settings over HDMI. Say, for screens like Lenovo L220x, that do not have good scaling options themselves.

Bioshock works. more or less quality picture only plays more or less smooh on 800x600, not more :-(

DVI did not tried

Speed difference between DX10 and DX9 on Vista unnoticeable.

GPU customised scaing only works in DX9 mode. DX10 always strached 8000x600 to wide 1280x800, crashing aspect ratio. Hence, DX10 only for Windowed mode.

DVI (HDMI with switch-cable from Gigabyte AMD690G desktop mainboard) works ok for usual apps. BioShock was uninstalled. video playback with Theatre Mode to be tested later.

Vista's settings are partially disabled with CCC's Hybrid CrossFire on. Hence, for some tweaks had to switch here and there.


PS: for Win XP doesn't Amd still has a link to download latest CCC with mobile support all-english ? Personally i'd prefer such a variant w/o modding :-)

Catalyst 8.11 was easily modded and installed with ATi installer.

Guess initial trouble was with Vista + ATi installer did not wished to change ancient signed drivers for recent non-signed ones which resuted in different driver versions for videocards. Once i cleaned Vista from signed reicts and manualy installed nonsigned new drivers, it now works ok even via ATi installer itself.

I can't find the right settings in the modded CL_70229.inf for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 x2.

My problem is a tv-out (svideo) thats not working...(on boot it shows the bios on lcd-tv, but in vista in doesent work at all)
