ati x300 on acer aspire 1650

hi all, just another novice ripping me hair out.
this laptop has been working great for three years then suddenly all went to pot. been having a night mare because of all these lines on my screen, computer crashing all the time. the only way to get computer back on is to go to safe mode and disable ati mobility radeon x300 then restart then comes back on but still with all the lines on.
ive just downloaded your ati modder and the latest ati desktop drivers as instructed to. finally i have my ati back without crashing but still got these lines all across the screen. also tried to play one of my old games but screen went blank in 3d mode.
pleeeeeeeeeeeease help (if you can) or its ging through window

Hi,

those lines sound like a hardware problem. Could be that the videocard or lcd screen is broken. Are the lines certain colores?

yes they are, like brown and blue. right over the screen theres two lines about 1" of brown then it steps down, two lines of blue then steps up again with brown. when i browse the internet pages and press for the screen to go down all the lines seem to join together and its a job to read the screen. its looks like the matrix

Well can you try to put the notebook to an external screen and see if it is still the same?

How old is the notebook?
