this is kinda striking for me as ATM, i have that EXACT Dell model in my posetion.
1gb of ram... nice....it costs nearly 200 bucks to run 1gb of ram in this laptop for generic laptop PC133 ram..... ouch... Either way, i'm sorry to say, but your simply not going to get very far with that laptop and Vista.. most of all of the parts in the laptop are not properly supported by windows vista. I was running it, but the, like you said, the video adapter is causing havoc.... not to mention a few other things just don't work properly or nice with vista. I can only suggest installing XP if you want the full fuctionality of the laptop... not to mention a more stable laptop. I personally haven't been successful in modding in a set of drivers or to counter the crashes vista experiences with this laptop. I just took the step back to xp home sp3....

Hi,
1 thing i know is that it isn't possible to mod a ATI Vista driver to work on that card. The problem is that the drivers don't support those old cards anymore. So the best is like Judas said and use Windows XP.

i got it working better :)
well i have been trying to get my c610 as stable as possble. I just changed out my motherboard (c600 to c610) thats where i started at. After that i have Xp Pro Sp2 and vista transformation pack 8.01 (it pretty much gives Xp the overall look of vista. I was okay with VTP, but i wanted to try Vista Ultimate... so i dl'd a torrent of MS Vista Ultimate and installed it. it installed fine and everything, but i kept getting crashes like every 15 minutes. So i did some investigating and i found a version of Vista that is smaller and has less features, but is still a REAL vista. I installed vista utimate lite (its modded to work with 256mb of RAM) so since i have a gig or ram, i got it last night, installed it, and honestly its working great, it seems to be very stable, and very seldom have i had a BLUE SCREEN ERROR. so i think im okay now. I did however find a driver that works for the video card, cant remember where, but it at least gives me more control over it. well thanks for all you input, i think im okay now anyway this is only a test of a 20gb harddrive
my main is still Xp Pro Sp2 and my fav VTP 8.01. VTP just had a new update so if anyone wants to try it i recomend it to you all THANKS AGAIN HaxZor PoWns 1337 h4x oNlY

haxzor..
i would suggest giving vista home basic a whirl (as you can't use Aero anyways)..... i intially tried home basic and it gave me the least amount of troubles and ran the smoothest with the c610. But the full functionality of the graphics is sevearly hamppered even with the semi working driver.
