Modtool overheats my computer

I have a toshiba laptop with a x700 mobility card in it.

If i run toshibas old drivers for the graphicscard(from 2006 or something ) i can play forever without my computer crashing.

If i use the latest catalyst driver with the modtool i can only play advanced games for about 30-60mins before the computer drops dead. No warning or anything, it just shuts off andi have to pull the 220V and the replug it to be able to start again.

If i place a small grid under the laptop while i'm gaming the computer never crashes which means it has to be some overheating-problem.

I can't use toshibas old drivers because wc3 lags alot with them, other games is almost no difference though

I seem to be having a somewhat similar problem: I installed a modified Catalyst 8.8 on my Lenovo T60p (FireGL v5250) and I'm also getting some symptoms of overheating in situations where they did not occur before.

In my case it's "just" a freeze for a couple seconds during which Vista restarts the display driver. The game sometimes crashes but the laptop itself has never killed itself due to overheating.

Any chance the OEM's set their drivers to be somewhat more conservative when it comes to the heath production?

Are there perhaps any (hidden) settings I can change to make the driver somewhat more cautious when it comes to overheating the system? Lower performance is in my case not really an issue, I'd just like to have my system as stable as possible...

What you can try is an older driver and just try a few. This could be a driver problem, because some drivers can give more performance. So please try like an older driver and make sure to uninstall the driver first.
