Driverheaven - Driver Cleaner 1.5
Ok guys,
Here is another release of Driver Cleaner. Below you find a list of the things that are changed since 1.4:
Improved:
- ATI cleaning file
- Cleaning routine code
Fixed:
- Installer could cause RPC stub error on W9x
Added:
- Cab Cleaner Program
- Program is movable over the screen
- Detection of Windows 2003
- Box where you can see the files/directories it found and deleted
- In the readme First Time Usage for other operating systems
- ATI WDM Capture driver cleaning file beta
- nVidia WDM driver cleaning file beta
- nVidia 3D Stereo driver cleaning file beta
IMPORTANT: uninstall the older version first before you install this version.
It is for nVidia and ATI drivers. It will remove anything that is left by the drivers after uninstall.
You can download the new version here.

Excellent work, Spike! I use this program all the time and recommend it to everyone I know!
Question for you: have you considered expanding this program to other drivers? I'm thinking specifically along the lines of Creative Labs soundcards It would be nice to have a program that does for their drivers what yours does to ATi/nVidia drivers! I help a lot of Audigy/Live owners update to the Audigy2 drivers, and it would just be a nice touch to make sure they start clean.
Regardless of whether or not you've even considered that, keep up the SUPERB work! It is greatly appreciated!

Doesn't work?
Today, i update the ati driver from 3.2 to 3.4.
First, i uninstall all display and capture driver, then i boot to safe mode.
Then i run cab cleaner, i am using 2000 sp3, so i select driver.cab and sp3.cab,
but it seems that the cleaner do nothing, after i click clean, it show success message immediately.
Next, i try driver cleaner, after open it, it can't detect my display card model.
Is it my procedure wrong?
Thank You.

It isn't bad that it doesn't detect the videocard. You mean under that like windows 2000?
Also can you do a search on your pc for driver.cab and see where it is located?

What do you mean?
My driver.cab and sp3.cab are located at C:\WINNT\Driver Cache\i386
I just want to know why the driver and cab cleaner donexn't work.
Is it related to the language of my windows 2000?
I am using chinese windows 2000.
Thank you.

The cab cleaner i don't know it should work. I will check that. About driver cleaner did you run the cleaning proces, because that it doesn't show your videocard doesn't mean anything. Did you also read the help file, because there is put this in the description. Here will be displayed what videocard you have. After uninstalling the drivers, it is possible that here is nothing or something like Standard VGA. So it doesn't mean anything just select like ATI and than press clean.

So you run the program and select ati and than after pressing clean it asks if you are sure and you press yes and than it doesn't do anything?
Can you give details about your machine like all you can.

CabCleaner don't find the cabs in my system too (winXP HE SP1).
Driver.cab doesn't exist anymore but SP1.cab is located in C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\ and CC says "SP1.cab does not exist"
ciao.

Yes, driver cleaner do nothing. As my understanding of the help, if it work, it should show what it is cleaned in the detail section, but it doesn't at my machine.
My machine:
Duron 1.3G, 384MB Ram and Alll-in-wonder Radeon.
Using Chinese Windows 2000.

You can get it back from the cd and maybe a little more info like did you also used it on the sp1 and did that 1 stay or did you only use it on the driver.cab, did you run it 2 times behind eachother on the same file? I really need more info before i can look to fix it.

This actually applies to v1.3:
I had a dir in Program Files named ATI, where I kept all tweakers, demos etc. It's gone. I think DC confused it somehow with "ATI Technologies" (where the control panel dwells). Hydra's gone too, but I only use one monitor anyway.
Otherwise, excellent proggy

It will delete these 3 dir in the Program files dir
\Program Files\ATI
\Program Files\ATI technology
\Program Files\ATI technologies
That is because of the things that changed durring the drivers. It is better to put it in a dir like ATI Tweaks, because it won't touch that.
What is that Hydra i don't know it?

http://pdownload.mii.instacontent.ne...-3-20-2020.exe
This is from the ATI home page -> find a driver -> WinXP/8500; but I think it's the same one for 98/ME and all chipsets.
Anyway, there should be a copy on your vid-card's CD (maybe something like "optional software" or "optional components").
Mine (Sapphire 9100) installed in "Program Files\ATI Technologies\Hydravision", so if you point the software to delete "Program Files\ATI Technologies\Control Panel" it should be safe.
Good luck, and congratulations on the great job you are doing!
