The modded Catalyst drivers for Mobility Radeon 9700
Hello,
I''m running Vista Ultimate on a Sager NP3790 laptop that has Mobility Radeon 9700. I modded with the DriverHeaven Mobility Modder tool the Catalyst drivers for Radeon 9700 for Windows Vista and installed it.
It installed successfully, but several things still do bother me once in a while:
1. There's no correct powersaving features that turns off properly the LCD screen.
2. In Catalyst Control Center the laptop screen is marked with a big red X mark meaning it's not recognized properly thus not offering me a specific resolution that I want to see in games (1280x800). I run the desktop screen at 1920x1200 as it's native to the LCD screen resolution.
3. Because of the point 2, Windows Media Player 11 won't play streamed videos, showing only black. I guess it's because of the DRM imposed limitations (due to the LCD screen not being recognized).
By the way I tried the Windows XP drivers in Windows Vista, but it gave me occasionally BSOD with stop 0x8e whenever I try to run Windows Media Player 11 with a streamed video content. So I guess the Windows XP drivers for Mobility Radeon 9700 aren't fully supported to run under Windows Vista.
Just sharing my observations. If anyone has a solution for the first 2 points above, please do tell me.
Thank you.

Additional observations:
While using the windows xp drivers, I've noticed that the powersaving features do work correctly, and I also noticed that the scrolling in IE7/Firefox is way more smoother than with windows vista drivers. However one strange thing is that the OpenGL stuff is limited to just vsync of 30Hz which I find it strange no matter what vsync setting I choose. With windows vista drivers, the OpenGL gives way more speed.
For all the above observations, I've disabled fully the themes/aero interface and used the classic theme.
