Mobility Modder Crashes On Me

Hi all.

I discovered this forum when trying to troubleshoot the dreaded "ati2mtag--Invalid Display" message after upgrading my wife's Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop to the ATI Radeon Catalyst 8.2 drivers.

The display drivers appear to work fine for me--in fact, they appear to provide higher resolutions than I had previously been able to achieve. However, at issue was the behavior at system restart--and anytime I tred to manually start the Ati Catalyst Control Centre (CCC). At system startup, I would receive an error message, no Ati icon would appear in the system tray, and I could find the aforementioned error message in the Event Viewer. Manual startup of CCC, would result in that application crashing right away.

Since I could not get CCC to run, I uninstalled it, but kept the 8.2 South Bridge and Display drivers, as I had downloaded the individual packages from Ati vice using their all-in-one bundle. Not having a pressing reason to keep .NET 2.0, I uninstalled that, too.

When I found your web-site, and the Mobility Modder--and how it "modifies" the CCC package, I thought perhaps this might be a solution to my problem. Therefore, I downloaded your Mobility Modder, ensured I had MSXML 4.0 installed, re-installed .NET 2.0, and re-extracted (only) the CCC package.

When I attempted to run the Mobility Modder, however, it crashed immediately, too.

I captured a graphic image of the error I get when I try to run your program, as well as the information Microsoft captures when such an event occurs. This actually took a bit of doing, as Microsoft cleans up after itself regardless of which option (i.e., "Send" or "Don't Send") you choose. I had to kill the Notification application in order to orphan (and thereby retain) the two output files.

I have linked the files and the graphic in the hopes that something contained therein will offer a clue to the problem, and a solution might be conveyed.

Thanks for a great web site, the wonderful service you provide--and thanks, also, in advance, for any assistance you might be able to offer.

Regards,

Mike Gentry

Hi again....

I did send a post to the supplied email address detailing the message originally reported, but I never received a reply. I can only assume something prevented your having received my post.

In the meantime, I downloaded your latest Mobility Modder.net file (ver. 1.0.0.0 Final Edition) and followed the updated directions. I wish I could say this did the trick, however, as soon as I launch the new executable, I receive an application error. First, Microsoft's Error Reporting stuff, then, once it sends off the dump file, I see a dialog box containing the following message (basically same as originally reported):

"Exception ECException in module MobilityDotNet.exe at 000213BD. Failure has occurred while loading a type."

I would really like to be able to use your application for its intended purpose, but thus far, this has been elusive....

Any ideas?

Regards,

Mike Gentry
