atimcatw.exe and DH Mod Tool

Hello,

when i want to download the newest official ATI driver from homepage for my mobility graphic card, i only get a "atimcatw.exe" - its a 600KB File which just check my notebook and say that its not compatible.

If i download the mobility file DIRECTLY or on mirror site (the over 30MB big .exe File for extracting), i can install the driver normally.

Now, my question:

1) Why is Mod Tool needed, if you can install the laptop drivers by simply directly download the drivers (without make the ati check program)

2) I get no error when installing the drivers without executing atimcatw.exe before installation - do i have to use modtool?

System Specs

The modtool is to modify the original Catalyst drivers for different mobility chipsets. A lot of chipsets are not supported anymore or some manufactures don't update the drivers a lot and most of the new chipsets are not in the mobility driver yet.
