ATI Mobility X1600 w/ Vista Help
Ok so I have an iMac running Windows Vista 32-bit with an ATI mobility x1600 card. I downloaded the Catalyst Control Center 7.11 and ran it using the modder. It said installation worked fine... but when it rebooted the Catalyst Control Center was nowhere to be found.
Did I do something wrong? If so what can I do to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance!

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!
Just to clear few things first. So you installed the modified drivers and the installation was ok? And is your Vista updated with latest updates?

You are correct, I installed the modified drivers and rebooted and when I started up again the 'ATI Technologies' fold in program files was just empty.
Did I maybe not modify the drivers correctly? I clicked 'Browse' and then selected the folder that was in C:/ATI/SUPPORT folder....
As for my updates... I just checked and I have 1 to install which I will do now and let you know if that helps.
Thanks.

So you downloaded the Catalyst Software Suite or just the Catalyst Control Center Application? Since to get the drivers you would need the Software Suite...

Hmm... then the problem might be that the drives inf files didn't got modified or there was some error in the installer... is the ati catalyst install manager in the controll panels uninstall programs list?
And you might try newest (CAT 7.12) drivers from ati and mod them.

Well the weird thing is that the ATI Uninstall program is in the programs list in the Add/Remove Program part but not the actual Catalyst software.
I tried with the 7.12 software and got the same result....

yeah there should only be the Catalyst installation utility that takes care of CCC and the driver installation and removal. The only thing now that I can think of that would be and issues would be that the modder hasn't have the device ID of your card. you can look it up easily. run dxdiag and save it to desk top and in the txt file lookup the part that says Device Key or Hardware ID that is under Display Devices.

Oops sorry for the double post but I made an error. In the Add/Remove Programs there is the ATI Catalyst INSTALL Manager as well as the Uninstall Manager, so both are there-
Sorry!

Hi,
best to try is to uninstall all the ati drivers and software and then run the modified drivers again. Also be sure to install the MSXML 4.0 or the msi files from the CCC will not be modified so it won't install then.

Hmm.... man I need some rest in xmas
You need the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 pack that isn't installed in Vista, it will have the MSXML files with it if my memory serves me right... anyway the file name is vcredist_x86.exe and you get it here : Download details: Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
Sorry for the mixup and merry xmas to you.
