I congratulate on making such tool available.
I use the Mobility Modder to mod the Vista drivers for Mobility Radeon 9700 and successfully installed on my laptop.
However I see two small problems that keeps bugging me out. I don't see 1280x800 in the resolution list when I try to play games and not even when I want to change the desktop resolution. My laptop screen is 1920x1200. I want 1280x800 because it gives correct scaling at reduced resolution for my laptop screen. Is there any way to add this particular resolution in Vista manually or by another means?
Laptop screen powering off doesn't work at all. I've tried every setting possible and no luck. Is this feature missing in the Vista drivers?
Thank you for trying to answer my questions.

ynaig2k can you tell me what notebook you have? then i can compare screen resolutions and see which i need to add. For the laptop screen not powering off i have no idea, but maybe i can see it by looking at the drivers if you can point me to the original drivers.

My laptop is Sager NP3790 (Clevo M37EW for the origin of the manufacturer). The resolution 1280x800 fits in the whole screen without black bars or something like that. There is of course 720x480 which does the same and it's available in Vista, but some games want bigger resolutions than 800x600.
I use the Catalyst 8.2 for Radeon 9700 (not mobility, since AMD/ATI doesn't offer drivers for Mobility 9x00 series).

Hi. I have a laptop with Ati X1700 graphic card and also im using XP. I used to omega drivers but ı want to install catalyst 8.1 or 8.3(new one). I downloaded MobilityDotNET4, Msxmsl 4 and catalyst 8.1 and 8.3. I modified the driver with the program but when ı tried to install them ı get the same message, the setup did not find driver competible with your current hardware... You know that and what am i have to do? Where i was wrong?

Heyas all
I have a ASUS PRO31 JSeries Notebook with ati radeon x2300 video card. I bought it for my son at Christmas who useis it for school and a bit of gaming. We are trying to run games which need opengl, ETQW, SOF2 & BF2.
I have run the modtool and followed all instructions, all seemed to work fine but the games still wont run. I get the opengl video card compliant error
ASUS tech's tell me it is possible to unlock the card and get opengl working but they wont tell me how..just to google it, but Im not cluey enough to get it working
Can someone please tell me if I am on the right track with this modtool / opengl problem.??

Does this work for the 7000 ?
Hi
I have got an toshiba lptop with a ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP graphics chip in it with 64MB memory. The problem is I have been tryong to get it to work with a 22" widescreen external monitor but there is no widescreen resolution available on the settings. I spotted this modder tool which looks just the job but it doesn't list the 7000 card as one it works for. Is my graphics card too old to cope with widescreen ?. My laptop has got a ATI control panel on it but not a CATALYST centre, does this matter ?
Thanks

Hello guys,
I have a Benq P52 laptop with ati card x1600, AMD Turion x2 TL-52, Vista Home Premium SP1. I managed to install the 8.3 display driver with the help of the mobility modder, works well.
But I have 2 issues:
- Starting Media Center crashes Vista SP1 in black screen. After uninstall driver 8.3 and use the embedded vista driver, Media Center works well.
- i don't know how to install the Catalyst Control Center. Even if i use the full driver package with ccc, i don't have the option to install ccc.

Cat 8.3 + Mobility 9700 through MM
This time everything is really perfect: no refresh rate issues, no missing components in CCC, no stuttering in games (even OpenGL ones)... A little incompatibility persists between ATi's PowerPlay and Ati Tray Tools, but that's an old ATT problem affecting many laptop owners. I just have to remember to exit ATT before going standby on battery to avoid the system to hang at resume. But this has nothing to do with the Mobility Modder, which always makes an excellent work for me. The problems I experienced in the past varied from a Cat version to another, so the Catalyst were the source of the matters, not the great MM.
Once again, thank you for your effort & results!

SSilence, do you have any issues with Vista Media Center? for me Vista crashes everytime i put Media Center in full screen mode.
I have tried 8.2, 8.3 modded catalyst versions and is the same situation.
only the default Vista WDM display driver works.

Open the Catalyst Control Center, go to the Color area, scroll to the bottom of the panel, and change it from "PC Standard white and black levels" to "Microsoft MCE black and white levels". That'll change it to the vibrancy you are used to. Not sure why the newer drivers change this back to PC Standard, but I think you'll find this will fix it right up for you.

This is my current problem. Where did this option go? Is there another way to bring back the brightness?

Firstly, this is an excellent tool, kudos to the makers! I'm using Catalyst 8.2 on my X1700 on Vista32 Business with no problems; 8.3 has problems with CCC's PowerPlay page and screen blinking, though, but given 8.2 has no problems I suspect it's the driver's issue.
A question on the tool: if I don't turn UAC off but instead run the Modder Tool as Administrator (even while I'm in my admin account) will it malfunction while still pronouncing a successful modification?

I might have a suspicion regarding to my issues. Here on my laptop (NP3790) the monitor (laptop screen) is shown as a red X mark meaning it is not recognized properly and as a result Vista uses a more restrictive mode for graphics driver. It would also explain the inability of Windows Media Player to show any streamed videos from internet. Of course I can show them easily with VideoLAN, but that's all I can suspect.

Some Help
Hello, first of all thank you for your great project! This helps alot of people that wants to keep their drivers up2date.
I have a problem while using the Mob Modder to be able to instal CCC 8.3.. that i will explain right now,
When I try the DirectX Diagnostics (dxdiag), and go to the graphics test, i can test DirectDraw and everything turns out okay, but then, I cannot test the Direct3D version, and it tells me that Direct3D is not available. So i went to Catalyst Control Center, and i Found out that in Graphics Software section it tells me that Direct3D Version is 6.14.10.0567.
I tryed to run a game that I usually runned before (FlyFF), and it tells me this error:
"WARNING: Nothing will be rendered.
The reference rending device has been selected, but your computer only has a reduced funcionality reference device installed. Install the DirectX SDK to get the full reference device."
I press OK, and it shows:
"Generic application error" and it closes. With older CCC drivers dxdiag detected direct3D. why doesnt it detects now? Do I need to download the full SDK? will it make any difference?
I have the last DirectX, and i'm on a Compac Presario 2800, with windows XP, and my graphic card is an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, 1.6ghz and 256ram. what could it be due to?
p.s: (here is the full graphics hardware section showing in CCC):
Code:
Graphics Card Manufacturer Powered by ATI
Graphics Chipset ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500
Device ID 4C57
Vendor 1002
Subsystem ID 004A
Subsystem Vendor ID 0E11
Bus Type AGP
Current Bus Setting AGP 4X
BIOS Version 006.001.006.007
BIOS Part Number BK6.0.0 VR006.001.006.007.002.001.001.001 j
BIOS Date 2002/05/17
Memory Size 32 MB
Memory Type DDR SGRAM / SDRAM
Core Clock in MHz 261 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz 176 MHz
Primary Display Yes

idea: Should I try CCC 8.2?!

I still can't find out why by some people when the driver is modded there is no direct3d. I am still looking at this. So if anybody has suggestions or know how it happens please tell.

hum.. thank you spike. but you think that if i try to install CCC 8.2 Direct3D could re-appear? or is it generic to MobMod?!
p.s: With CCC 8.1 happens the same mistake. any ideas? Spike do you think installing DirectX SDK would help?

You could try installing the sdk and see if that works.
The CCC doesn't make a difference in the Direct 3D. It is just a control panel to change teh settings.
It is also possible that the new drivers don't have the direct3d code in it for those older cards, those older cards are like directx 7 and maybe that is not in the new drivers anymore.

@fiish if you run the tool in administrator mode and the modding did go ok then it is good. Turning of the UAC is just an advice we give, but it is not needed.
