Direct x problems with driver mod - please help
Alright so I'm just one more person who is stuck with an ATI graphics card in a laptop with the most recent drivers being from 2004. This makes this computer a gaming nightmare the videocard just holds everything back. The graphics card is an ATI IGP345M which I know is relativly old from the gaming point of view but I just want to be able to run games like warcraft 3 with a reasonable frame rate.
Getting to the point, this driver mod that I found seemed like digging up gold but I am having trouble with several things. First of all, when I go to the ati website I'm not sure which desktop driver to download since there is a whole list of different graphics cards. I tried the highest one with a recent driver and followed the directions. Everything appeared to work properly until I attempted to run a game. I came up with the error message "unable to start direct x, check to make sure that it is installed and your graphics drivers are recent." This was very dissapointing and I would really appreciate it if someone would help me because I don't really want to buy a new computer yet and this mod would extend this ones life for a while. Thanks a lot to anyone who takes the time to help.
PS. I noticed that there is a memory increasing feature for the video card but I read that it increases it from 128 to 256 of 512. I have one gig of ram in this computer and since the card is integrated into that I was wondering if its possible to increase the designated ram for the videocard even though its currently at 64mb.
Thanks
Joe

Hi,
i will first start with the memory. Increasing it will not make it more when it originally has 64MB. The reason i build it in is that some cards have like 256 or 512 mb for the graphics card and the default maximum memory is set at 128 in the driver file. So the people that have more could only use 128MB and by modifiying that before they install it they can use the full 256 or 512MB.
Can you check in the device manager that the driver is installed? or run CCC if that is installed, there you could also see it. If it is installed then what you can try is installing the latest DirectX 9.0c version and see it that maybe helps.

direct 3d problems after installing new driver with modder
Hey there, I'm in the same boat...
I've just bought Ceaser 4 and as usual I've had to go extra steps in attempt to get the program to run... console gaming is becoming more lucrative everyday... *sigh
I'm also running on a radeon_igp_m345 video adaptor with a driver that was signed in 2004.. so when I stumbled upon this Mobility Modder tool in the game forum I though I'd give it a chance...
I installed the catalyst desktop driver 7-6 using the mobility modder tool, and even attempt to use 3D analyze to get the game to work. When I launch the game I get and exception error.... I've found that the modder or the catalyst desktop driver is disabling the Direct 3D functionality for the directX. direct X log is posted below, if anyone has any ideas, I"m all ears.. Thanks in Advance
Nate

Thanks for the fast responce its always cool to see moderators and higher up people in these things actually taking the time to comment and help with everything, even the smaller things so quickly.
When I installed the mod I used the latest graphics drivers from the Radeon desktop GPU card with the biggest number because I didn't really know which to use. I'm thinking that that might be the problem. I would really appreciate it if someone would post a link or directions to the correct driver package to download and install to mod for my IGP345M graphics card. Since the mod did not work last I rolled my drivers back to the previous 2004 ones supplied by HP but before doing so I did attempt to reinstall direct x with no sucess because it said it was up to date. I didn't check to see if the drivers were shown to be working under the hardware menu but they appeared to be because I had a whole range of new screen resolutions available. I did not have any form of catalist control to play with the direct x and I think that is because I chose the wrong driver package to install. If anyone wants to take the time to give me a path to the correct driver package it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!
Joe

For the driver you select. For XP you select Professinal / Home then in the 2nd box Radeon and in the 3rd box you can select Radeon HD 2900 XT, because they all use the same driver.
I will do some checking and see if i maybe missed some setting. If anybody has a solution then please tell.

I was curious. Does anyone know if the D3D and DirectDraw is being disabled b/c the driver is not WQHL signed?
Also I was wondering, when I uninstall my video driver before I attempt to install the driver modded by the dh mod tool, does it remove all of the necessary files, or is there an additional cleaning process that I should undertake?
Thanks in advance for any help on this....

Driver uninstalls always leave things behind.
The d3d has nothing to do with whql, becuase there are a lot of beta drivers for like nvidia that are not whql. Still not sure why it happens, because it doesn ot happen with everyone.

same problem
I have a Dell Inspiron 600m with a Radeon mobility 9000 card installed. I used drivermod as directed but I get the same direct x initialization errors when attempting to play Civilization 4 or The Sims 2.
I also see an error when running 'dxdiag,' it reports that Direct 3D acceleration is not avaliable and that I should check that I have the latest version of the manufacturer's drivers.

I've got the same problem - currently using a Dell Inspiron 600m, with a Radeon Mobility 9000. After installing using the mod tool on the Catalyst 7.7 drivers and installing them, dxdiag reports that Direct3D is unavailable. Just wondering if there's any updates or fixes to get around this? Thanks
