Vista & HP Pavilion Mobility Radeon 9600 64mb?

Hello everybody, I'm new on the forum.

I have a HP Pavilion zx5171EA laptop (P4 3.2 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM, 15.4 Wide TFT) with a ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 64MB card.
I wanna put Vista on my laptop but no luck with drivers. The driver Vista found - "MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)" has a warning sign on it and it doesn't work properly. I've tried DH Mobility Modder - but no luck, the drivers have the same warning sign. The only driver I was able to get working was ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM) ..

Is there any hope for me and my laptop for something better - glass, aero, WDDM, something ... anybody?

Thanks.

So the driver that was modded did install normally or did you had to force it? Do you remember what the warning was?

Can you post the DeviceID? you can find in the dxdiag when you save the information. Open that file and look by Display Devices and post the Device Key line here.

Thank you for the quick reply!

No, I didn't have any problems modding, just nothing happend. After installing, the computer wanted to reboot but nothing happend, I mean it did not change to a higher resolution or something. You know how it is that screen can go black for a second when the new driver is loaded. Nothing like that happend when I apply the modded Catalyst driver or the one Vista "recommends" for my graphic card. Both have yellow triangle in Device Manager with a "!" and in properties says that the device is not working correctly. It is only with I apply this driver (9000) that screen goes off for a second and i can change to a correct resolution. Here is the information from dxdiag:

The device id is supported in the modder. The XDDM means it is the XP driver that is installed. But Glass and Areo are not possible. I thought you needed 128MB or more for that.

Will take another look at the inf files to see if i can find something.

same problems on Toshiba P30 (Radeon Mobility 9600, 64MB) - followed all instructions but always afrer reboot Device Manager shows < ! > and defaults to standard VGA.

As suggested, the best option so far is the XDDM Radeon 9000 driver which allowed me to run a better resolution, but still getting 1.0 as Score for 3D. Haven't tried to install the latest 9600/9700 XP drivers from Toshiba site, as I didn't know that XP drivers can be installed on Vista (I read in this topic for the fiorst time for XDDM drivers).

Looking forward to any suggestions...

It is still wierd that it happens, because i checked and the 4E50 id is in the list as 9600/9700.

I have to look more into this and see what could cause it. Will do some searching for that 9600 64MB.

Just to add that the patching with the mod went alright as when installing it allowed me to actually install drivers (recognized my card as 9600/9700). It just doesn't work with those drivers after that. So could it be that they are really incompatible with the Mobility ATI hardware, don't know. I hope you know

Same problem here with my toshiba p10.

I have found this thread on technet that explain how to install the XP display driver on vista.

http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/...&tf=0&pageid=0

It worked well for me altought I would prefer to run the native Vista driver!

Spike, it could also give you some clue about where the problem lies.

Thanks.

zx5000 prob.

I have same problem with my hp zx5000. MY card is an Ati Mobility Radeon 9600. When Vista install the WDDM drivers for my 9600 and I reboot my computer I get the (!) Error code 43. I installed the XP Drivers and they work fine but no Aero. When I use the Vista Upgrade Advisor it says that my computers GPU is capable of running windows vista Aero. (DX9, PX2) but the problem is that the WDDM drivers in vista dont work. Any one found a solution for this yet?

Thanks!
