Reasons for using DH MobMod

Hi guys.

I've tried reading around, I just don't understand.

Why use the DH Mobility Modder? Why not just go to the ATI site, download the correct drivers and install them? I read the history here (http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/), but I don't understand still.

I apologise if I'm being dense, I always thought mobility modder was some kind of driver auto update before I actually looked at it, and now I'm wondering what the benefit is.

I'm running an xpress 1100 in my Acer aspire 5050.

Thanks guys!

The benefit is simple. You can not find any ati mobility driver for vista on the ati website and other companies have very old drivers out and are slow in making new.

So with the Mobility Modder you can download the normal catalyst vista driver and mod them to install on mobility chipsets.

What is it installing then when I download the driver from ati and install it compared to when it gets modded before installing it?

I download the xpress 1100 driver for vista 32 bit.

Sorry, I'm not used to not "getting" computer stuff.

Thanks for your response.

every ATI graphics card has a unique ID including mobility chipsets. ATI do not support many of these cards from OEMS (like dell for example) so you can't actually install the drivers from ATI's site as the ID isnt in the driver. you get a hardware not supported error.

With the mod tool, it "modifies" the driver with the ID's of the hardware that arent there. Therefore more people can install the drivers.

Why do this? why not go to the laptop makers site for drivers? well you can, however they might be 2 or 3 revisions older than ATI's "reference" drivers.

Ah right! My acer just lets me install the driver in the first place without any error, so I suppose the modder isn't really any use to me is it?

Thanks man, couldn't get my head around this one!

Ps. Your avatar is awesome Zardon!
