I've been using these mod tools for XP for a very long time so I am not new to the scene when it comes to installing etc etc, but anyway, moving onto my problem, I still followed the guide on the main page for the Mobility Modder and I still end up with the "Failed to find any installable components" message (Screen shots here) http://www2.simslearning.co.uk/locke...screenshot.jpg
I used the official 7.4 installer from ATi/AMD's website
I have an ATi Mobility Radeon X700 and normally for XP this always works, so I can't understand why on Vista Home Premium it doesn't. Any help would be appreciated

ok just to clarify do you mean the offical 7.4 driver from AMD's site? just to confirm you are using the new net modder and not the old modtool V4 right?
Can you please detail the exact steps you took once you downloaded the driver from AMD's site to your desktop.

It looks like the drivers more or less installed successfully for me. My laptop is an MSI M-635 with an x700 Mobility chipset running Vista Business x32 and my previous drivers were the Microsoft default drivers for ATI chipsets that Vista ships with. I tested Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory, which I'd previously only been able to run windowed, and it now runs fullscreen just fine. The only issue is that I'm unable to get CCC to start (explained below).
Some notes about my particular setup.
I've been having problems with ATI drivers for a long time on this laptop, even back on XP, where certain things like booting with my laptop unplugged or enabling a second display would cause corruption or no display at all except for the mouse cursor, so I'd been stuck using Microsoft's drivers since moving to Vista. The ATI patch notes said that the particular issue I was having was fixed in 7.3 and I'm glad to say that so far, with 7.4, that seems to be true.
The last few times I attempted to install ATI drivers, I had to roll back to Microsoft drivers in Vista safe-mode because I could no longer see the screen when Windows booted. Because ATI's uninstaller doesn't work properly in safe mode, it left a lot of garbage on my system that I couldn't get rid of when using the MS drivers, which is probably the reason that the CCC doesn't want to run. I don't consider it a big deal since I've never liked using it anyway. Just as long as I can play new games, I'm happy.
Thanks so much for the driver modder, DH crew. You have no idea how long I've been pulling my hair out waiting for my laptop to be usable for games again. You guys truly rock.

Awesome to hear man, really makes this worthwhile.
Shame about the CCC issue you have always seemed to have. if you could email us a DX log file we could look into it and see if we can help you sort that out.
Even if you cant get CCC working, the drivers are set by default to high quality mipmaps and no AA or AF (app/game controlled) which should work well for you with almost everything.

Yes it is the one from AMD's website. As soon as it downloaded, I downloaded MSXML 4.0 and installed that. I extracted the driver to the default directory and cancelled at the start like the guide says. Ran the modtool and set the directory to the same folder as the extraction was set to. It modified successfully, so I went and opened Setup.exe and as it checks for hardware, the screenshot that I linked earlier comes up and it says failed to install. Thats pretty much it from the steps I took to installing it. That any help?

7.4's downloaded from ATI/AMD and modded with the tool do not support the native resolution of my Uniwill 258KA with the 9600/9700 series radeon (1280 x 800). The highest it's letting me go is 1024 x 768.

You can use powerstrip to set a custom resolution.

Hi,
like Zardon says use powerstrip for now. I am trying to add more resolutions to the files and more mobility chipsets.

Is there anymore information you need on my graphics card? Like a dxdiag dump or anything to help you guys out?
