I installed Catalyst 7.2 on my Amilo Xi 1554 (Mobility X1900) !
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum, and I just bought the latest Fujitsu-Siemens laptop, the Amilo Xi 1554, powered by the new ATI mobility chipset, Mobility X1900. I have the official Fujitsu drivers, but they are old, dated from october 10th, 2006. And based on the old Catalyst 6.8 (a modified version). I tried to install the official ATI drivers several times, always with no success. Also, I was expecting some support for the Mobility X1900 in the 7.2 Catalyst, but they just don't ...So the only solution was to modify by myself the drivers . I found this great website, and found the great tool DH ModTool.I followed the instructions : I downloaded the complete driver package (Radeon version) from the ATI website, execute them, until I have the usual error who tell me that I don't have any compatible adapter. It closes the installation by itself. Then I start DH Modtool, click on the "GO MOBILE" button. It then tell me that all is fine. I try to install the driver again, but, same error... So sad !I think I am the first to try this, because I seen it nowhere else. So I tell you how I did to install those damn 7.2 drivers !So here is the trick to install the driver, after you have patched the drivers with DH Modtool : - Go in the folder C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-2_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_41238\Driver\2KXP_INF\ - Open the file CX_41238.inf - At the end of the [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] section, just add the following lines (add them as I write them): "ATI Mobility Radeon X1800" = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7102&SUBSYS_23421584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900" = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_23621584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_23631584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7102&SUBSYS_10AC1734 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_10AC1734 I found these lines in the Fujitsu official inf driver file. So now, if all is well, you should have in your [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] section : [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] "ATI MOBILITY RADEON" = ati2mtag_M6, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C59 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON" = ati2mtag_M6, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C5A "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500" = ati2mtag_M7, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C57 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7800 GL" = ati2mtag_M7, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C58 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000" = ati2mtag_M9, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C66 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000" = ati2mtag_M9, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C65 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000" = ati2mtag_M9, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C67 "ATI MOBILITY FireGL 9000" = ati2mtag_M9plus, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4C64 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9200 " = ati2mtag_M9Plus, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5C63 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9200 " = ati2mtag_M9Plus, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5C61 "ATI MOBILITY IGP 320M" = ati2mtag_U1, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4136 "ATI MOBILITY IGP 320M" = ati2mtag_U1, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4336 "ATI MOBILITY IGP 340M/345M" = ati2mtag_RS200M, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4337 "ATI MOBILITY IGP 7000" = ati2mtag_RS250M, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4437 "ATI MOBILITY IGP 9000" = ati2mtag_RS300M, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5835 "ATI MOBILITY IGP 9100" = ati2mtag_RS300M, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5834 "ATI MOBILITY FIRE GL T2/T2e" = ati2mtag_M10GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E54 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON Xpress 200 Series" = ati2mtag_RS480M, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5955 "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V3100" = ati2mtag_M22GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5464 "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V3200" = ati2mtag_M24GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_3154 "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5000" = ati2mtag_M26GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_564A "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5000 " = ati2mtag_M26GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_564B "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5100" = ati2mtag_M28GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5D49 "ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200" = ati2mtag_M56GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71C4 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9550" = ati2mtag_M12, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E56 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series" = ati2mtag_M10, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E50 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9500/9600/9700 Series" = ati2mtag_M10, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E52 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9800" = ati2mtag_M18, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4A4E "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X200" = ati2mtag_M21, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5461 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300" = ati2mtag_M22, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5460 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 " = ati2mtag_M24, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_3152 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600" = ati2mtag_M24, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_3150 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 SE" = ati2mtag_M24C, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5462 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700" = ati2mtag_M26, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5652 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 " = ati2mtag_M26, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5653 "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 XL" = ati2mtag_M26XL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_564F "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 XL " = ati2mtag_M26XL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_564F "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X800" = ati2mtag_M28, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5D4A "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X800 XT" = ati2mtag_M28, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5D48 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1300" = ati2mtag_M52, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7149 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1400" = ati2mtag_M54, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7145 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1600" = ati2mtag_M56, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71C5 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1800" = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7102 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 XT" = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7101 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1800" = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7102&SUBSYS_23421584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900" = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_23621584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_23631584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7102&SUBSYS_10AC1734 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_10AC1734 Then save your file. - Right click on the desktop and open your display properties - Go to Settings tab - Click on Advanced - Find your card properties (where you can see some informations about your card and list all the compatible display resolutions) - Click the Properties button (I am french, maybe the caption of the button is not really this in english) - Go on Driver tab - Click on Update driver - Windows ask if you want to check updates with windows update for your driver, choose "Not this time" - Click Next - Choose "Install from a specified location" - Next - Choose "Do not search. I will choose myself" - Click on Disk - Click on Browse - Select the inf file that you modified just before : C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-2_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_41238\Driver\2KXP_INF\CX_41238 .inf - OK - If all is fine, you should now see, with "Only show compatible hardware" checked, "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 " - Click on Next and follow the procedure until Windows ask you to reboot. - Reboot when asked Driver is now installed !You can now install the latest Catalyst Control Center 7.2 : - Just go in this folder C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-2_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_41238\CCC\ - Click on setup.exe and follow the procedure - Reboot when asked If all goes well for you, Your Mobility X1900 is now using Catalyst 7.2 !!! Enjoy ![]() Note : As I am french, I have a french Windows XP, so maybe the English captions can be a little different that what I wrote. Sorry for this! Gabriel Hautclocq |

Little fix :
I don't know if this is important, but for this line : "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_10AC1734 When I post the topic, it removes the spaces. There is 2 spaces before the ending quote! Not one. |

I just tried something and it works.
Just download the latest Mobility Catalyst 7.2 http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/7..._enu_41243.exe Then try to install... Error... Setup is cancelling and closing. Then go to folder C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-2-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_41243\Driver\XP_INF Open file CX_41243.inf Add these lines to [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] section : "ATI Mobility Radeon X1800" = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7102&SUBSYS_23421584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900" = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_23621584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_23631584 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7102&SUBSYS_10AC1734 "ATI Mobility Radeon X1900 " = ati2mtag_M58, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7284&SUBSYS_10AC1734 Last line has two spaces before the ending quote but this forum deleted it. Just add it again. Save. Install the driver the same way I described in my first post. It should works too. |

Hi i got the new drivers working on my Xi 1554 but for some reason catalyst wont work now. to be honest this doesnt bother me too much.
I have noticed quite an improvement in gaming performance which is great but have you noticed windows aero no longer is available?? is there a reason for this or a fix?? Also another thing i've noticed. when the std fujitsu supplied drivers were installed there was 760Mb ram shared to the graphics card... since doing the driver install from the 7.2 package there is now no shared memory availbe to the graphics card. this is obviously a good thing and seems to be helping with the gaming / general performance gains.. let me know your thoughts on the aero situation. ta, Ste. |
