ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP problem

Hi,
I installed Catalyst 6.9 with Control Center after being patched by ModToolV4.
The graphics card was detected as "ATI Mobility Radeon 9000". And it seemed to be operational.
However, some DirectX apps I created myself fil to initialize graphics device. The mesh viewer that came with the SDK (August 2006) was very slow (like 0.3fps for quite simple meshes), as if it wasn't using the graphics card but rather the integrated graphics on the motherboard.
OpenGL seemed to work well, and everything else too, so I think it's all about DirectX.
My laptop hardware:
- Pentium 4 HT (3.2GHz, 1MB L2)
- 80GB HDD 5400rpm
- ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP
- 1GB RAM
- 1024x768 @ 32bpp display
Thank you for your help.

According to https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...e&folderID=293 Catalyst 6.9 driver only supports Radeon 9500-X1900, not Radeon 7000-9250. You should try Catalyst 6.5 at http://support.ati.com/ics/support/d...estionID=22264 instead.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...ocessing_Units Radeon 8500-9250 belongs to the Radeon R200 series, and only supports DirectX 8.1, not DirectX 9.0 in hardware. This could be why ATI has ceased support for these chips from Catalyst 6.6.

I hope this will fix your problem. Good luck!

Hi,
I recentyl bought Team Fortresse 2 and am having all sorts of problems getting it off the ground. When I try to play I get a message saying. 'This game has a minimum requirement of DirectX 8.0. I have upgraded to Catalyst 6.5 using ModToolV4 and i got DirectX 9.0c. So i have no idea why its giving me this message. I tried afterwards to install DirectX 8.1b but it still doesnt work.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A70
-ATI RADEON 9000 GTI
-Version : 6.14.10.6614

Your input would be very much apprieciated.

Hardware DirectX 8.0

I also am having difficulty playing anything new released in the Orange Box. The problem is that the minimum requirement of DirectX 8.0 as a hardware minimum. My software is at 9.0c but for my Toshiba A75 the driver does not give me a hardware DirectX 8.0 but 7.1, I think. ATI states that the 9000 IGP can operate at 8.0 but I don't think Toshiba will update its driver. If there is some way to force your hardware to operate at 8.0 like it could. I could have sworn that I saw something that could enable a higher hardware DirectX level.

Has anyone tried to use the Omega drivers based on an earlier driver release? Try some from the 4,5,and 6 range and see what you get. Anything newer won't work I believe, so its best to stick with the older ones.

4.12 is my personal favorite, and still plays HL2 resonably well on my 9000 AGP

But does that play HL2: Episode 2, Portal or TF2? These latest releases require a hardware DirectX 8.0 or above and HL2 and Episode 1 require 7.0.
