Toshiba seem to leading the way with some key Hard drive design elements recently and their newest 1.8 inch drive is the industry's largest single platter drive in this class - The 320GB MK3233GSG.

The drive has two 160GB platters which spin at 5,400 rpm and are backed up by a 16MB cache - which gives possible transfer rates of around 830mbit/s.

This would be a great drive to be used in small netbooks or even people who want tiny self powered USB external drives for easy on the move backup without compromising on storage size. There are also 160gb and 250gb versions in the making.

The drives are due for release in December.
