PC users can now install OSX, without a Mac. new software

Mac Operating system manufacturer Psystar are again putting themselves under fire from Apple with the release of a commercial application to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on your PC.

The software is called Rebel EFI which sounds to me a little like a Canon Camera editing suite. It allows users to install Mac OSX on most computers with a Intel Core 2 Duo, Quad Core, I7 or Xeon Nehalem. If you have always wanted to try OSX but don't want to buy a Macintosh then this might be right up your alley. The full release costs $49.99 and allows a full unrestricted install on the hardware you want. There is a limited free demo as well.

Technically this is actually not the first commercial product released to allow consumers to install OSX on non branded Apple hardware but it is a daring step for Psystar who are already being sued by Apple for offering systems with their operating system pre installed.

Worth a try? does it work? let us know. Grab it here

Demo 2-hour limited run time , how am I supposed to install OS , drivers then try them just in two hours.
I downloaded the demo anyway but it is an ISO file , don't have an idea what to do . Maybe I have to burn it to CD then boot then what ?

You just burn the ISO file as an image comp_ali. it then should be bootable and usable.

I find it funny, if there is one thing that I like about Apple computers is the computers, not the OS.

I got tired of the computers, that's why I decided to build a Hackintosh instead. I like being able to upgrade the components I want when I want and not be forced to buy a whole new system.

I believe the only way to get OS X running on AMD systems is to hack to OS. This would probably cause even more legal wrangling for Pystar because this would promote downloading illegal copies of the OS. With an Intel system you can go out and buy OS X legally.

I've read this is a gray zone. Some attorneys will argue that there is no way Apple can enforce such a clause, others say they can. While I'm not an attorney, I do believe such a clause is anti-competitive and doesn't really hold up. But that's just me...

Funnily enough mate, it's the opposite here. I like the OS but hate the hardware... the price anyways.

And there's been a project going ever since Apple moved away from PPC architecture and into x86 called OSx86 which uses the Unix bootloader Darwin on the JaS release anyway.

Anyways the long and short of it is that OSx86 is a patched version of OS X that's basically blind to the fact that every piece of hardware inside your system isn't stamped with the apple logo.

I won't share details how to install or where to get it, But go check it out. I'm using it right now and it runs perfect with audio, video (Minus quartz extreme), wireless and even the DVD drive works perfectly lol plus i've got it on a dual boot with OS X and Win 7, all you need is a spare HDD you don't mind formatting.

I hate the lack of education. check out the new 27 inch imac - thats a bargain (check out the thread on DH about it). Check out the macbook air which is £1,000 LESS than the worse speced Dell Adamo. Sure some of their prices for CPU upgrades and memory aren't brilliant, but its a niche audience.

You aren't the Apple target group, you are a kid basically who doesn't work and unless you have rich parents a mac is a bit of a pipe dream. I don't mean this as an insult but a 500 quid Acer laptop is really more for your target audience.

I no, I don't own a Mac, but I wouldnt mind. I think most people who were being honest would love one, its just jealousy

Re: PC users can now install OSX, without a Mac. new software

its funny in a way cause I dont really like mac much but if you check out their prices lately they really aren't that bad, especially when you look at the styling and materials (normally quite a lot of aluminum which is pretty expensive).

That 27 Inch Imac is really quite beautiful and the specs are awesome, its almost 2560x1600 !

I would need to learn a bit more about OSX though before moving. I still would love a Macbook Pro, I see them in all the tv shows, Like one of the latest FRINGE episodes and man are they sexy as hell. Everytime I walk into a PC store, all the acers, dells and toshibas look so friggin ugly with stickers and glowing crap all over them. Have to had it to mac for their looks. Just outta my price range.

I never liked all these ugly as sin stickers (with a ton of glue) on the PC laptops.

As for Fringe, whenever I watch it I don't see anything else than Anna Torv. There are computers in the series?

Re: PC users can now install OSX, without a Mac. new software

to me Apple are simply designer, and very GOOD designers.

Products DESIGNED in Cali, made in China (usually by companys like AsusTek), uses nothing different from a well designed Windows computer under the hood (except maybe this new battery and power components). Its something i'd buy if I needed OSX and power on the go, or a workstation for graphic and video production. They are still prone to errors, I have no issues of viruses and don't have to deal with limited upgradability possibilities on Windows.

Love Apple, but hate the smug fanboyism for being "different". Made their own subculture.

I'm a student which is more Apple's target group, And yeah i know the new iMac's a bargain but only if you earn enough money to justify it. I'm unemployed and have been for a few months now since the health and safety laws in the UK are ridiculous and cost me my job.

Given the choice between a high spec windows-computer and a mac i'd pick the windows computer and install OSx86 on it :P
