Join the hate crowd. its really easy to hate stuff. Its harder to learn it and work out what you are talking about I am not sure why Z tries to educate sometimes. Quite funny to read a guy in here saying an Ipod is the same as the OS that Zardon does all his designing on. Then Mousey spitting out his crisps cause he agrees and finds it funny.

Hell I wish I could do the same on an 'IPOD os'. maybe I need to learn it.

I have no intention of owning a mac, nor have I any interest in one. I like them though but I just do what I need on a PC (Im lazy like most people on these forums).

The ads are funny though, no idea why people get upset, offended and angry over them. Guess people take their choice of computers and operating systems rather personally.

Those threads on youtube are hilarious for the comments alone. So many idiots out there for such a small planet.

The Mac Ads work because of marketing psychology, If you ever want to learn how to manipulate the mind, ask a marketing executive from a fortune 500 company. See even if you HATE the ad, companies know that giving you an extreme emotional response will make you remember their brand. and due to the way they market it, you'll eventually forget why you hate it (supposedly) but remember the brand. It's complex psychology.

Prsonally, I find the Ads funny, and sorry, the Microsoft ads are just as made up as Apples.

I began to think it is useless to discuss about MACs in forums , I just end up with neg rep most of the time. I know I may be sometimes aggressive but that's called fun.

Anyway , back to topic , one of the reasons that also made my ignorant about Mac's is the availability , I drop by major computer stores here in Egypt and no one sells them just Pcs , may be because most of the customers would find it overpriced they will eventually go with the PC so there is no point for the reseller to get them. Or maybe Apple is lazy enough to sign a contract with importers to Egypt. You know even iphone just made its way here from a few months and I don't know if they selling well or not.

You have to admit that they look the same though which was my whole point. I love using Macs for some things. Take, for example, when I was on a newspaper staff. we used windows computers (mostly because they are a heck of a lot cheaper on average) for the writing of articles etc and then did all of the layout on a mac since it possessed the ultimate software set to do the job. At the end of the day I still think that they look the same because they are based on the same platform etc. I've used both for essentially the same tasks of my day to day tasks as well as at my current job where the entire design/broadcasting (for teaching classes to field offices) insists on using macs. I've watched both platforms crash (some more gracefully than others at times) and both platforms run well.

The big difference here is that one OS (windows) has to deal with all kinds of hardware where it is, unwillingly at times, installed on. So the big thing that people can't say about windows is that they hate it because it never works right. Well, they never stop to think its because its installed on hardware that doesn't play well with others.

Then you have the other OS (Mac) which doesn't have to deal with anything but the prefab'd computers that their manufacturer also makes. So obviously they will have a completely different set of issues from each other. I just really think it speaks volumes to a company that puts down another company and yet won't make their product available to the same set of scenarios. Its basically like judging some one and not walking a mile in their shoes first.

Actually you are right as the iphone/touch OS was derived from OSX and uses the Darwin foundation. iPhone OS has four abstraction layers: the Core OS layer, the Core Services layer, the Media layer, and the Cocoa Touch layer. OSX is a UNIX based OS built on technologies which were developed at NeXT between the second half of the 80s and Apples purchase of the company in late 1996 - so in reality the 'portable' version of OSX is actually a specialised version - it takes less than 240 Megabytes of the device's total memory storage, I could bore you with information around the Mach Kernel but I think most of you would just want to jump off a cliff.

You have to admit however when you look at some of the operating systems on the portable players it is quite advanced. The Samsung portable player I have here sounds better than an ipod, but the interface just leaves me wanting to kick it out the window.

Hey I own an iTouch for a reason! Its just jailbroken but thats part of the deal I suppose (i like it better when I can put my own spin on it) and makes it a lot more usable IMHO.

but my iTouch is quite possibly the best all around portable mp3 player i've owned.

I cannot say I care for the "Get a Mac" ads because they have some snarky kid blurt out half-truths and sometimes outright lies. Here are some examples:

PCs are virus-infested, while Macs have no viruses:
That's strange, because none of my PCs have viruses. Maybe that's just because I have common sense. As for Macs, the virus situation has more to do with it having a smaller install base (a smaller target for malware/virus creators) than it being inherently secure or unsecure.

Macs are far more stable than Windows PCs:
Newsflash: Windows has been stable since Windows 2000 (and XP for most consumers). Regardless of what OS you run, though, it will be unstable if the hardware drivers are buggy. You cannot blame Microsoft if a hardware vendor does not supply drivers for your OS or if those drivers are buggy. Put the blame where it belongs: on the hardware vendor.

Microsoft needs to use the money from its recent marketing campaign to fix Vista:
Vista does not need to be fixed because it is already stable. There were a few problems with it when it launched, but most were do to unstable or nonexistent drivers for legacy hardware (see above). The core OS is pretty dang good. It's so good, in fact, that Windows 7 is basically just Vista SP3 (Shhh! Don't tell anyone!).

You need a beast of a PC to run Vista:
OK. This may have some truth to it, especially when we consider the onslaught of netbooks. However, most of the performance problems with Vista can be solved simply by adding more ram (sorry guys, 512MB just doesn't cut it anymore). This really shouldn't be a problem because ram is so cheap these days. Again, blame the hardware vendor for not putting enough ram into your PC/laptop/netbook, not Microsoft.

PC users are geeks/uncool:
The Mac ads don't come right out and say this, but it is implied everywhere in the ads simply by the actors used and the way they act dress. Thanks, but I don't like to be typecast in any fashion (good or bad) simply by the OS(es) I use. It is strange that Apple does this, considering that the vast majority of people use Windows-based computers. You would think that insulting your potential customers would be a bad thing.

Overall, I just think the "Get a Mac" ads are too untruthful and snarky. To me, the Mac guy comes off as being a jerk. I would rather see a series of short commercials showing how reportedly fast/easy it is to do certain tasks on OSX and/or advertising Apple's nice hardware itself.

These Apple commercials just make me think Steve Jobs is trying to get back at Bill Gates and Microsoft. It seems very childish. Apple does not need to resort to such tactics, especially considering the high quality of its software and hardware.
