Good review...... only one part i can think of that's missing... and usually isn't thought of..... motherboard placement.... some weird cases actually don't setup there mounts correctly at all.. and some aren't even removeable..... most of the biggest problems come from OEM machines that specifically design the case/motherboard .... that you have to buy either the exact... or one of THERE motherboard to upgrade...... I showed my case but cutting.dicing.... and basically making a mess but useable mess out of it.......

I dont know what cases you have bought in the past, but I would say 99.5 percent of the cases purchased will have the correct placement of the mounting screws and if it is for some reason mucked up ...take it back and get a good one, as for proprietary boards /systems,thats not what this guide was made for.It was made for people to get a better understanding of building a new system from scratch, not mixmatching this and that and trying to make it work.

very easy to follow indeed. For those of you building p4 systems, everything is the same except for the heatsink mounting is slightly different.

No...the heatsink comes with the paste on it, I'm not going to tell people to use something that would void their warranty.

thermal paste comes w/the stock heatsink/fan usually when a retail CPU is purchased. But the OEM CPUs are just the CPU itself. the HSF should have it's own thermal paste seperately in the package, and if not, then one can buy some.
and why would it void the warranty? as far as i know, warranty is only voided when OCing occurs.

There are other types of case-motherboard fittings....
The clips that are set into holes in the case plate, by inserting and twisting 90 degrees.
Invariably, one will not clip very well, one will not take a fixing screw, and one more may be equally troublesome, plus you NEVER have as many as you'd like to use.
Plastic slide-posts are not seen on modern cases, but you may see some plastic buffer posts that can be used on a motherbord fixing with no matching case hole, to prevent flexing under pressure (connector/CPU area).
Cases usually have positions marked for varioious sizes of board, so the first step is to see which pattern is a match (if any) - sometimes you just have to check it by eye, or even resort to shining a light through and offerring up the motherboard.
A post fitted where it does not match the motherboard, will either short it out, scratch the tracks, or just prevent the motherboard fitting at all
