Cannot Reinstall NVIDIA Drivers in Vista
Greetings all.
I just today purchased and downloaded driver cleaner software and used it on my Vista 32 bit computer with two eVGA NVIDIA 9800GX2 GPUs. I selected "NVIDIA" from the pull-down list and the cleaning operation appeared to go well. I rebooted and looked in device manager and saw the 4 GPUs with the yellow exclamation point indicating that drivers could not be found and was running on generic VGA drivers. I attempted to reinstall the NVIDIA drivers 175.16 and all appeared to go well except that the installation "completed" in very short order (on the order of 25 seconds) and it asked for a reboot. I rebooted only to find that the NVIDIA drivers had not installed and I was using the generic VGA driver with the four GPUs continuing to show the exclamation point. I attempted to manually update the drivers and, although the computer knew that the GPUs were 9800GX2 and could find a driver for it, the drivers would not install due to an unknown error. Where do I go from here as I can no longer install the NVIDIA drivers. I even tried a down-level driver but to no avail. Please help. |

Can you send the log files from Driver Cleaner.NET that can be found inside the installation folder\log. Send those to info at drivercleaner dot net, also include your name and email address you used to register.
Did you follow the steps in the help file instructions? What you can try is use system restore and go back a few day like before you used Driver Cleaner and then try uninstallimng the display driver in normal windows through the control panel. After that is done don't reboot the system but run Driver Cleaner then. After that is done reboot the system and then install the drivers.

Just saw this post, after I made mine. I have had the same thing happen to me but it has happened multiple times over the past few years. Its always random, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
Never figured out what was causing the issue but decided to make a post here to see if I could find out. |

What I have found to work when Vista restarts it will automatically install the window driver. If you uninstall this driver the nivida drivers will not install. Let vista install their driver, install the nivida driver.
