Hi all,
First, I purchased the DC.net software yesterday as I have been having issues with two hardware drivers and was hoping it would help. Here are the two issues:
First, My System Specs are as follows:
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Intel Core Duo E8400 @ 3.00 GHz
nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard
4 GB OCZ DDR3 Ram @ 1,333 MHz
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GX2 (just one card)
SoundBlaster X-FI ExtremeMusic
Ultra X3 1,000 W PSU
System was custom-built by me.
- I have flashed the latest XFX Bios
- I have downloaded and installed the latest Motherboard drivers
- I am using beta drivers for soundblaster because other drivers cause issues
- I am using beta nvidia drivers 175.80 because 175.16 had control panel issues
- I use kaspersky with Defender turned off
- I have UAC disabled
- I have zero eventvwr errors besides kerberos which is normal and an event that can be safely ignored.
- I have windows audit failures for \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\System32\CTAPO64.d ll which leads me to believe that the creative sound drivers weren't signed but I can't confirm this.
- The nvidia control panel fails stating NVIDIA Control Panel Application, 1.5.700.67 has stopped working.
I decided to try running DC.net to fix the nvidia issues with the control panel. So, I uninstalled the chipset drivers, the performance monitoring software, and the display drivers in "normal" mode. I restarted the computer in 'safe mode'. I used the dc.net software to remove the chipset and the display drivers and restarted the machine in normal mode. I installed the latest chipset and the latest display drivers.
Here's my issue now:
In windows control panel there are two identical nvidia control panels now. Both, when clicked on reference the same issue :
- The nvidia control panel fails stating NVIDIA Control Panel Application, 1.5.700.67 has stopped working.
In order to access any of the control panel features, I'm having to edit regedit and change the following:
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies\ContextUIPoli cy\ value to (1) instead of (2)
This allows me to use the old style control panel. However, I'm just not happy with this. I don't want to have to reinstall windows again and go through the entire motions (because it's just a bit too time consuming).
Is there something I'm doing wrong here? Maybe a bad sequence of events that didn't occur in the correct order? Any suggestions?
