There are four separate weights, of which only one can be installed at a time. The mouse also recognizes which weight you have installed as each one has a chip in it. It is unique because all of the other mice I have seen use a different system - similar to that of the G5 you mention - where there are lots of small weights which you can install in different combinations for different weights.

Just a small warning about Roccat Kone. MAKE SURE you get the version 2 of the mouse. Version 1 has a huge flaw (production problem) with it's middle mouse button, which means it break easily. I'm on my fourth Roccat Kone (all v1) and I got my first for 12 months ago.. >_>
Version 2 can be recognized by it's packing. The packing can be seen in this review, which is a v2. Other that that, it's an awesome mouse and today Roccat released Windows 7 drivers for it

Btw.
"The USB connector lacks a gold plating which I would expect of a gaming mouse of this type and the cable lacks a durable braided finish like many other gaming mice." Why would you want a gold plating, it's a digital USB connection? I like the more normal cable, those "braided" cables tend to get real dusty and clutter. |

I have the same combination of Roccat Kone and Taito. It works really well.
The mouse is just very comfortable to hold and looks great. The mousemat is HUGE. Really nice and smooth though. One final tip; Don't use a lighter on the edges of the mat to make the very small fibres a bit neater. It just causes it to get hard and chafe.

I've got the roccat v1 mouse myself, and I'm quiet satisfied with it
