FSP Epsilon 600W PSU Review @ DH

Read the review here
____________________

During the past few months FSP have released many new retail products and replaced many of their existing series with newer, upgraded versions. Today we are going to have a look at the Epsilon 600W PSU, a quality mainstream product. The Epsilon series was released well over a year ago, but according to their specifications they still can easily compete in today's market. The 600W unit is based on a recent design and it is an 80 Plus approved PSU.

Re: FSP Epsilon 600W PSU Review @ DH

Yeah it is a bit improved over the original Epsilon 600 that I've been using for a while now. Perhaps most importantly the efficiency at lower loads is higher in order to conform to the 80PLUS standard, and the fan is much less noisy. I had to replace the fan on this older version since the lowest speed was unecessarily high. Other than that it's been great, but I might switch it out in favor for a 450W Corsair since my system doesn't max more than 230W and has an idle load of half that.

That's a pretty decent PSU test rig.

Nice review did note the regulation issues though and that parameter is very important to maintain for any PSU.

Looks good overall the quality is there but coming up on Q1 of 2009 might be starting to become a bit underpowered at 600W.

The Epsilon platform has not been FSP's greatest

JonnyGURU.com - Power Supply Reviews and more! - Reviews - FSP Everest 700W - Everest 700W (Epsilon + modular) disgraces itself, with one sample faulty due to solder problems and the second one misbehaving due to bizarre wiring of the fan (also present on the first one). Why abuse the 3.3V to reduce fan voltage when there is a fan controller anyway?

Interesting, but exactly what relevance has this to do with a different PSU reviewed on DH today? Do you not think Grace was right on her review of the 600w or are you just trying to reiterate that you think they suck as a general rule of thumb?

Re: FSP Epsilon 600W PSU Review @ DH

Guys, guys, take it easy. This is not something worthy of fighting over.

Matth, I'm afraid I've never even seen an Everest unit up close. Even though the base design appears to be the same, the two units could be as different as heaven and earth. It appears that FSP either fixed the problem or failed to "abuse" the PSU which I received. The ground cable of the fan is soldered at a ground joint and the fan controller appears to be working just fine. Overall, just as the review says, it could be better but it didn't fail during my testing and neither it performed below its expected parameters.
