Coolermaster ATCS 840 Chassis Review @ DH
Read The Review Here
_________________ Today were going to take a look at the ATC S 840, a full tower case that Coolermaster hopes will break into the high end market when it is released next month. With many components growing in size and the demand for water cooling support increasing, they have constructed a huge full tower case designed to accommodate the modern demands of enthusiasts. |

Re: Coolermaster ATCS 840 Chassis Review @ DH
After reading this great review I'm sitting here worried i've just made a big mistake.
Earlier tonight I placed an order for a Antec twelve hundred. An hour after ordering I logged back on because I couldn't get another case out of my head, the case in question is the Coolermaster HAF932 which shares every single feature of the ATCS 840 barring the removable motherboard tray which I'd never use after the initial build and the build material (steel vs aluminium) which really doesnt bother me. The HAF932 has the cutout for the cpu cooler, the large front/side/rear fans and optional PSU slot and I can only imagine is the basis for the ATCS 840 minus one major factor - the HAF932 can be obtained for around the £110 figure which is a hefty £90 saving. Have I made the wrong choice fellow DH'ers? Ordering this late I could send off an email asking to change as long as it's before sunday night when the order processes. So Antec twelve or HAF932?

Re: Coolermaster ATCS 840 Chassis Review @ DH
Another nice review Nathan and this one is Dugg for ya
![]() A few things I noted here and the first and most obvious is the relocation of the grommets for external watercooling solutions moved to the top of the rear panel. This makes more sense as this case like the NZXT Tempest has large top fans which are intended for rads for water cooling. So why put the access points for external pumps and equipment halfway down the rear of the case ![]() ![]() The second thing I noted and is the allowance to mount your PSU in either direction as it allows you to draw air and heat from within your case or fresh air from the bottom cutout and in this case using a new filter. My RC690 has this but not the filter and in retrospect both NZXT cases I have been sent to review don't have this as the bottom of the case is solid. (Noted in my review over here) Even though the option is given in the manual for the case: ![]() Finally the price is bit high for me on this one but hey looks good

I am loving the whole Wavemaster throw back in terms of design and quality. It has been so long since Cooler Master has made a nice sleek stylish case like the 840.

some of it i like... some of it not so much..
i'm still a fan of the entire front being a honeycomb mesh that allows air to be be sucked through it like there wasn't anything even there. plus with all the fiber filters to help restrict the dust being collected as well.

Very nice looking case. The only thing about the aluminum cases I dont like is they scratch very easily. Other than that it looks like CM has a winner on their hands.
PS:I must say I like Nathan's reviews good work dude. |

Can't find any evidence of it other than close studying of pictures but i'm not sure the HAF932 has any form of dust filtering which is a bit of a concern but surely the larger fans shift more air and create less noise which is a primary factor for me as i'm a strictly aircooled guy. Anyway im now guilty of thread stealing so feel free to move my posts if you wish. To keep things mildly on topic I'm not that keen on the appearance of the ATCS840 but it certainly looks fit for purpose, with that much space and moving air you could probably keep your beers cool while gaming. Unfortunately £200 is more than I could afford to spend on a case without feeling guilty everytime I looked at it.

Re: Coolermaster ATCS 840 Chassis Review @ DH
I'd lean towards the HAF too. The ATC is just too expensive for my taste and the HAF gives you a little bit more than the Nine Hundred. I feel however that all these cases go well overboard when it comes to fans and openings for all but the more extreme cooling needs. While an opening that's not needed could always be blocked fairly easily, the HAF and Nine cases could have been better looking with both sides using a sleek flush design.
I have only seen the Nine Hundred first hand and it's not at all bad. It just didn't impress me either. Last edited by mkk; Nov 29, 2008 at 07:29 PM. |

Re: Coolermaster ATCS 840 Chassis Review @ DH
thx for a great review. if i wasnt so happy with my cmstacker this would be my case of choice.
since im watercooling the 840 fits my needs better, but given what i payed for my stacker & its performance there is no way i can justify the outlay for a 840, assuming i had the $$ to spend lol. of course my wife should outgrow her case sometime next year, & it is very lightweight aluminum, wouldnt take much of an accident for it to become non-functional...
