Akasa Vortexx Neo Review

Read The Review Here
_______________________

Akasa have been in operation for a number of years now and are a well known name throughout the industry. They are best known for their cooling solutions and power supply units which are primarily aimed to performance oriented enthusiast users.

Modern GPU chips have ever growing cooling needs, especially under overclocked conditions. Reference coolers aren't always able to keep up with the heat dissipation demands of these chips and the user may be able to get a lot more out of their card with the purchase of a more sophisticated cooling solution. Today we're going to look at the Akasa Vortexx Neo, which claims to combine high thermal performance with low noise levels.

Any idea of its compatibility with new GT200 Geforces ? It seems those cards, specially the GTX 280, are far from quiet with their native coolers.

I asked Akasa and unfortunately due to the mounting size they arent supported. I will keep you informed of any progress with forthcoming products and we will endeavour to review it.

I asked Akasa today why the USA didnt have them, and they told me this store will be stocking them very soon. Sidewinder Computers - Supplier of High Quality PC Modding and Cooling parts

I checked and they aren't showing it under the search but give them a call and enquire they should be able to help.

This info came from Akasa UK PR so im hoping its right.

Nice review! I wanted to know does the Akasa cooler provide any cooling to the VRMs? I'm looking to outfit one of these on an HD4850 and pretty much all ATI cards have problems keeping the VRMs cool. And if not, could the stock heatsink on the VRMs be left on there or would I need to buy separate heatsinks for them?

Thanks! Really looking forward to picking up one of these when they finally arrive in the U.S.

Hey Covertash,

The Akasa does have ventilation slits underneath the fan over the VRMs but unfortunately doesn't provide any sort of heatsink for them.

However, due to the high clearance of the fan there is ample room to leave the stock (or aftermarket) VRM heatsinks on underneath.

What card are you using?

All I can see of the Radeon HD4850 (reference design) is of pictures at the moment, but as far as I can tell the Akasa cooler should be able to accommodate the stock heatsink on the VRMs on the card, here is a more detailed picture of the Akasa cooler showing the fan:

Notice the fan raised above the VRM heatsink

Cheers

Very nice! Thanks again Nathan! I'm really hoping that this cooler comes State side soon because quite frankly I'm not sure how much longer I can take having the stock fan turned up faster to manage the heat, lol!

Re: Akasa Vortexx Neo Review

Good review. I am thinking of getting this Akasa GPU cooler for my 9800GT and have one query.
I'm using a uATX board and am using a sound card as well. I was wondering if it would fit after placing the akasa cooler on the gpu. This is my mobo:

-> ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Plus in your review I was wondering if that pci slot just under the cooler can accomodate a sound card.

Thanks
