DH Review: GMC R-3 Corona Case

Read The Review Here
_________________

GMC are a Korean manufacturer of PC cases and they are continuously trying to design innovative and functional products for enthusiasts who would like to have something a little different. Today we will take a look at one of their latest creations, the R-3 ‘Corona’. The R-3 is a tower case designed to fit a standard ATX system but with the minimum possible dimensions, making it considerably smaller than any standard ATX case out there. Of course such a design has downsides as well as advantages which we will examine in this review.

That is some seriously wierd drive placement, optical drive tray descending vertically, that's crazy. Perhaps it's meant to use a slotloader?

I think that's a really novel idea, they way they have the drives stacked like dominos. My systems tend to have 1 optical drive and 2 HDD's so it would be perfect for me. The small video card limit is killer, though. I would think if they just expanded the bottom out some more they could fit those bigger video cards.

Of course....the temps a regular video card sees inside this case are what the more powerful cards can do inside a well ventilated case, so who knows if putting one in here is a good idea.

I'm interested in seeing more designs like this. Cooling a decent computer in a compact space is a lofty goal. Many of the other compact designs rely on different motherboard standards and use lower power components.

Oh, no. A slot-load drive would not work well at all. It can work only with regular optical drives. And it works perfectly fine, there are no problems at all. As long as your drive is made this millennium and has those 4-6 small disk retention clips.
