Need some *serious* help !!
I'm on Windows98SE with an original SBLive card.. I've been using the Creative drivers with it for quite some time now. My nightmare started last night when I installed the kX drivers.
Installation looked fine to me, in the middle the "new hardware found" box came up and it asked me to reboot after it had installed the drivers. Well, now everytime I boot up it says the kX soundcard can not initialize and that the drivers may not be installed properly. All the soundcard options are greyed out and I have no sound.
In an attempt to go back to my Creative drivers, I went to the device manager and deleted the sound card. I then manually searched my hard drive (C:\Windows\System and System32 mainly) and got rid of all of the KX files that were installed. Well, at bootup I still get the same message... my system doesn't recognize the card as an SBlive anymore. Even after installing Creative's drivers again.
As a side note, I downloaded the latest beta kX drivers and am using an Abit Bh6 motherboard. I'd like to consider myself a pretty savvy computer user (tweaking the registry, etc) but this has me completely baffled... I'd like to avoid a reformat if possible.
P.s one more thing -- just so all know, I had grabbed the lib files and put them in my Windows\system directory as was recommended.
