??? Poor low frequency response with both front/rear enabled

Ever since I installed the kx drivers I've had this problem, none of the revisions so far have fixed it. I'm currently using Version: 5, 10, 00, 3528 - debug Compiled: Dec 3 2002 00:50:27 on Windows 2000 SP3 with an SB Live Value (CT4832), output to 4.1 Sirocco Crossfire.

Basically, if I have the both the analog front and the analog rear enabled at the same time, I get little/no bass response from my subwoofer. Muting the front or rear results in the bass returning to normal. I didn't have this problem using the Creative drivers (but i had plenty of others...), and I'm pretty sure it isn't my amp. that's doing it... unless somehow the two low frequency parts of the signals are cancelling each other out or something crazy.

If I play something with AC3 channel and enable SPDIF output the bass is fine also. At the moment I'm having to use the 10 Band EQ and set the lower frequencies to +7 or so to get any response from my subwoofer.

Any ideas?

Phase problem?

Maybe you have a phase problem. You should revert the phase of the front or the rear speakers. You can test if that is the problem by inserting a PHASE plugin (in KX DSP windows) right before the signal goes to the rear speakers (OR the front one's) and see what happens.

Hello everyone, hello R1CH, hello Daniel :-)

I have the exact same problem as R1CH. I'm a totally new to the kX Project but do work in the IT field, so it wasn't that hard to find out how to insert a phase between "epilog Analog Front Left" / "epilog Analog Front Right" and the "10 Band EQ" in the DSP window.

The bass, after sounding too weak, now sounds too strong.

As far as I can tell I only did the first step of what Daniel said - I inserted a Phase to test if that is the problem.
But I do not know how to reverse the phase of the front or rear speakers.

Can anyone please help me with this?

Thanks a lot,

- John

PS: I use a Logitech ZX560 4.1 system

If the bass got stronger you have fixed the phase problem. If it is too strong you just have to turn its volume down a bit or turn down the volume of the signal you send to it. That's the way it should work. I posted in other post a quick guide to insert a phase plugin...

Nice, thanks again

It works fine for me, great bass & overall great sound quality, actually better than the old Creative drivers.

By the way, a few hundred gamers should be using your kX Project by now. I posted a link to your website on a forum of Asheron's Call 2, an online-rpg that currently has sound issues with Creative sound cards.

Your drivers do fix these issues, so you have a few more fans now

bye,

I use kX for gaming every day - and so far no problems Much better than slowdown EAX with CL drivers...
