Missing CD-SPDIF input
Hi everyone. I've just reinstalled the kX drivers after not using them for a few months - the issue I'm having did not occur with my previous installation.
I have an SBLive Value/CT4830 and a DVD-ROM which is connected to the digital CD input, which should be 'CD-SPDIF', In2 and In3 on the prolog. I also have a CDRW connected to the extra pins on the card which shows up as 'Coaxial/Optical', In6 and In7 on the prolog. The problem is, I'm getting no sound from the DVD, but I am from the CDRW. I've tried connecting the prolog's outputs one at a time directly to the epilog's front analog inputs, but no cigar. This is an issue with both 3534f and 3537. It does NOT happen with the Creative drivers - the DVD volume is controlled with the 'CD Digital' control on the creative mixer, as it should be.
I fully removed the Creative drivers before installation. I also tried removing the microsoft drivers that get installed at boot, but when I installed kX it skipped driver installation - presumably I'd removed the device completely from my system. I'm about to try the method of renaming the Windows driver files to avoid installing the microsoft drivers, but i'm not hopeful this will solve the problem. I can't help feeling I'm missing something obvious.
I also have an issue with the 3537 drivers - the controls for front/rear speaker volume are logarithmic where they used to be linear, this means they are very sensitive and there is only a tiny amount of useful range. Why was this change made? Will it be reversed in 3538, and are there issues with 3534f that mean I shouldn't be using it?
My system is: Athlon 2600XP+, ASUS A7V266-MX mobo, onboard sound disabled, 512Mb DDR RAM, GeForce4 Ti4600, SBLive Value/CT4830, ARTEC WR4848 CD-RW (master), Pioneer DVD-ROM (slave)
It's just occurred to me that I disabled the on-board sound in BIOS but didn't uninstall the drivers, so I'll try that as well on the off-chance, but I was under the impression that Windows didn't load drivers for devices that aren't installed, so I'm not hopeful about that either.
Any help much appreciated!
